Does anyone know of good campsites/touring parks in the lake district with secure bike storage or lockups? Not too fussed about where they are so long as it's that general area.
Thanks

There is what I remember a Caravan and Camping site in Drizdale Forest

But will warn you that I camped there in the Last week of July and first week in August
and we had Ground frost and was that cold they was going to shut the site.

Just make sure you have a dam good sleeping bag.

Never heard of Drizdale Forest but there are quite a few camp sites in the Grizedale Forest and Hawkshead area. I'm camping up at Ullswater next week (again lots of campsites just google it), although finding somewhere which isn't fully booked may be a challenge.

Not campsites but i know a few good, cheap B&B's (25-30 quid a night) with secure bike lock-ups, if you're interested?

    I wouldn't camp in lakes, unless you're a sea-scout.

Loads of bike thefts around the lakes at the minute, scumbags have sussed that biking folk often go into shops and stuff and leave their bikes outside, 'cos it all looks so peaceful. Dont' let your bike out of sight unless it's proper secured.

Got details of a nice B&B in Ambleside, PM me if you're interested (secure bike storage too).
Pictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

Been up there before and stayed in a cottage in near Ambleside, which was lovely, but we were going to take the van and camp this time - only problem is its a dub and there's only really room for one bike when two people are inside. We don't have a bike rack on the van we can lock the bikes to, and can't get a roof rack on either because of the pop top. Tried chaining the bikes to the door handles once, but thats not only impractical but also quite easy to nick.

Thanks for your help though guys, guess I will have to start phoning campsites and asking what they got as it isn't a very highly featured facility on campsite web pages

I'd recommend a place called Side Farm in Patterdale, its a great little campsite tucked away from the hustle and bustle, got some good XC routes around Ullswater Lake and a cracking pub nearby.

I either chain my bikes to the roof carriers or to the alloy wheels of my car overnight - saw this at Le Mans one year with a tent d-locked to a Ford GT - not sure if it was to secure the tent or the car!!!

Do you have a towing eye that could be used to secure the bikes?
screaming when you are about to crash doesn't help....!
