Flooding and Soaking (Friday)

I had a series of meetings at my home office in Swindon on Friday, so took the train through and planned to enjoy the 6km or so to the office.
The train was delayed outside Swindon due to a broken down train and flooding in South Wales. "Flooding" I thought, odd given that I'd seen (a bit of) blue sky in London and there was no rain yet just outside Swindon.
The, just as the train started moving into the station, deluge. It was hammering down. By the time I'd got to street level, visibility was seriously impaired, and everywhere was under an inch of water. I was already running late so decided to brave it as best as I could. Within about 0.76s, I was drenched, but my feet were stiff cosy thanks to neoprene overshoes. As I got further into the ride, the water got deeper. First my feet were just dabbing the water level at the bottom of the pedal stroke, but soon the water was so deep the hubs were under water and I was completely and utterly wet. This stretch lasted about 500m and then I got to higher ground and thankfully less standing water.
The remainder of the ride wasn't too bad, really but when getting changed I realised that my clothes had wet patches. Worse tho' was that I hadn't brought spare shoes and had ratehr just worn my walkable touring shoes that I'd planned to wear during the day. Oh well, at least my socks were dry...
So I padded around the office saying "It's a long story" quite a bit, and at the end of the day decided to rather just ride home in my work clothes as my synthetics were still sodden despite hanging in the change room all day.
Of course, it drizzled a bit on the way home, but not too bad. Plus, I kept my socks dry so I could change back into them for the train trip home.
Would I rather have taken the car? No chance.
