Wheelie good advice needed

I was going to buy some spare wheels so I had a road and off road set and was originally going to get XT Splined Hubs on Mavic 719 rims. The only reason was to keep them similar to the standard ones on the bike (XT Splined hubs on 717 rims).

I can get hold of some Hope Hoops on DT5.1D's with DT Comp Spokes for only ££30 more. It would mean having to buy a set of 6 bolt discs but will these be stronger and/or lighter than the XT 719 combo and worth the extra cash?

I don't know much about the Hope Hoop hubs or the DT5.1D rims. I want something light but strong enough for trails, all mountain and XC. I dont really want anythig too heavy or DH rims as they are only going on the RockLobster with 100mm forks.

Any advice please?

Having done a few searches on google I managed to find the rims and hubs mentioned. The DT Swiss EX 5.1and Hope Pro 2 seem just what I am after and the wheels as a whole are much more expensive then the Mavics. Although the rims are 40g heavier I was told the hubs are ligther. I think I will go with the DT Swiss / Hope given that I can get them inc P+P for £65 less than the RRP.

Unless anyone has any other good ideas?

The DT Swiss / Hube wheels will be £220 delivered. Seems like a good price when the RRP is £285 + P+P.

The Mavic 719 with XT splined hubs would be £190 delivered (wait a min I am talking sh*te as Merlin sell them for £156 which is a lot less than £30 difference I said in my first post. More like £70 difference).

I could always get the heavier duty Mavic 521 which compares well to the DT5.1 for even less than the 719. Is the 317 Rim any good?

The Stans Notubes ZTR Flow Rim sound like a great rim but a little more expensive at almost £70 each and don't wheels usually cost more if you buy the components and then get them built?

317 is a fair bit less sturdy, and quite narrow.

Quality wise they are very good, i have the xr4.2d's and they feel quite strong for an xc wheel the 5.1 whould be a good choice for an am wheel or just something a bit tougher. 8)

I think I will end up sticking with the 719 with XT splined discs with DT Comp DB spokes. I can't justify the extra £70 for the Hope / DT and then have to buy more discs. It would make the fact I have easy change splined discs pointless. Plus if I buy from Merlin I would be happy I am getting a well built set of wheels.
