Cav v Wiggo
There seems to be a bit of playing them off against each other on this forum and elsewhere and those who don't like Cav will try and down play his acheivemants compared to Wiggo this year. If it is alright by everyone i am going to support both of them. They have both acheived brilliant things at this Tour. Who would have thought we brits would have the fastest sprinter in the world and a top 3 GC finisher (fingers crossed).
I know people will try and compare their characters and Wiggo's chilled out attitude will suit some more than Cav's more intense personality. But lets just celebrate both of them and what they have done. It amazes me that after only 2 years and 8 stage wins people are already taking Cav for granted and ripping into him. Both riders have had me jumping out of my seat watching them this year (As well as Millar in barca) and with the Sky team coming next year maybe we can have even more to cheer about. Come on the Brits!!!

+1 to that. Two very different riders, chasing completely different goals. But hats off to the pair of them for doing a damn good job in both cases.

The best thing about it is that in the next few years, fingers crossed, it's only gona get better. Both of these riders have come from the BC track setup and tranferred it to the road.
Imagine the possibilities of developing riders specifically on the road. Peter Kennaugh, Ben Swift and Johnny Bellis are VERY promising.0 -

Their personalities fit with their riding goals.
Ever seen an introverted sprinter? Life on the limit.
Those with designs on GC need to harbour their resources much more carefully.Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.0 -

Don't Wiggins' and Cav's performances at the tour this year completely vindicate BCs approach? Even if neither of them get involved in Team Sky, the guys who are starting to come through on the track now will benefit from the new set up.0 -
Both are awesome cyclists.
Why so many on here get over upset about personalities and the like is beyond comprehension.0 -
It'd be great to see the pair of them standing on the podium one day, one in yellow, the other in green.0

I'll take a bit of both please. Loving the brits in the TdF this yearNot climber, not sprinter, not rouleur0

It's just great we've got two British riders doing so well. Can't remember the last time that happened!0

Nice to read a positive post! Great Tour for the Brits. Too many people get carried away with their personnalities. Lets just appreciate their acheivements.0

A very good point there, one of the few other stand-out tours with a British interest I can think of is exactly 50 years ago(!) - Brian Robinson (19th overall) and Vic Sutton (37th) both made the top 40 on GC, Robinson taking the honours on stage 20 and Sutton putting in some notable uphill performances.

If Wiggins can get on the third or second step of the podium, he will be adored forever. If he ruins it by getting in yellow in Paris, he will be despised forever.0

Both riders have been absolutely awesome in this Tour. I suppose the special mention goes to Bradley simply because none of us (except himself?) expected such a brilliant performance. He's not hanging on for grim death at the back of the GC contender's group in the mountains, he's following the right wheels, marking the moves and jumping on and negating the dangerous attacks and even throwing a few attacking moves himself. His post race interviews on ITV4 are excellent and he's having the time of his life.
Cav is winning as we have almost come to expect and is feared by so many fast-men now that it seems only Thor can/wants to take him on. His post race interviews are excellent and he's still a breath of fresh air in what is a very stagnant peloton, personality wise.
I look forward to Wiggo finishing high up on GC and Bingo and the God of Thunder giving it some on the Champs Elysees this Sunday.Let's close our eyes and see what happens0 -
You can't compare them They are chasing completely different goals and they are completely different types fo rider. I love them both. Aw, Cav is so dreamy with his lovely pouty lips.. don't you just want to kiss him! (he's far too young for me tho....) Wiggo is rather sweet with his very British, playing it down, understated way of talkng about his massive achievments, yet showing a genuine quiet pleasure at his own good form. Cav comes across as more of the typical sprinter stereotype; more overtly emotional, wears his heart on his sleeve, an aggressive rider, generous in his praise of team mates (and showing great affection for them all after a win), but equally showing his annoyance when others don't perform as expected (showing that he's a perfectionist himself). He's a bit of a pretty-boy, flamboyant with his green specs and totally awesome in action! Hurrah for them both I say! It's all been great fun to watch!0

We do pretty well in my 'other' sport too - dinghy racing
I'm delighted to have two Brits to cheer on though I'm more of a Wiggins type myself (dream on, Geoff) Cav's sprinting supported by a well-drilled lead out team is a joy to see.

Wiggins is dull. At least Cavendish has a bit of bite and character about him!The most painful climb in Northern Ireland http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs200.snc1/6776_124247198694_548863694_2335754_8016178_n.jpg0

Can't remember when it was (after Olympics?) but didn't Cav insinuate that Brad was "only good for a laugh" in the cycling world - almost implying Brad wasn't much of a Road cyclist ??? Cav must be choking on his cornflakes now. But then again , he's got 4 stage wins in this years tour already and will probably take Paris - all good0

Wiggins is one of the more interesting riders in the bunch, he travels to races with a guitar and has more interests outside of racing than the average rider, most of the bunch are interested in buying cars, mobile phones and drooling over porno stars. If that's you thing too, fine but Wiggins has more than this.0
