Being new to carbon fiber frames this might be a stupid question. After doing a couple of hours out in heavy rain today I could hear water in the frame when I got home & was cleaning it. I took the seat post out & poured about 1/2 a litre of water out!!! Is this normal??

I've heard about it before, Trek now put a drainage hole in their frames to stop it

All frames have a drainage hole. Just remove the cable guide screw from under the BB.

To stop water ingress, use clear bath sealant round the seatpost - tube interface, and also up the clamping slot at the back of the tube. This is where the water gets in when it is thrown up by the tyre.

Obviously best not to have water in there as it will equal extra weight, but I've never worried about it damaging the frame. Carbon will not rust so no need to worry about it doing any harm.

It happens with all bikes with a seatpost and collar - not just carbon ones. In the days of steel frames you knew it was bad when your chainstays rusted through and it was a long walk home....
