Anybody out there ever had Post Concussion Syndrome?

Had a big slam off my MTB on some single track in Surrey at the end of May. Basically fell off at top speed and slammed head first into my face/helmet. Don't recall the crash itself and had a load of memory loss for the hour after the crash. Anyway, got checked out the hospital on the day itself - had the usual scans, was told it was a concussion and that had I not been wearing a helmet, it's likely there'd not be much of me left.
Anyway... it's almost been 2 months and my symptoms haven't gone away (headache, foggy head, problems with my balance). Beginning to do my nut in as can't get back in the saddle/exercise/booze. Have had subsequent scans that have come back fine and been told I've got Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS) - and that the only thing that heals is time itself (could be months, could be best part of a year, could be permanent ).
Anybody else out there had PCS? Anybody know of anything that's helped to alleviate the symptoms? Did it take you as long to get over it?

Hi
I suffered a concussion about 3 months ago from jujitsu, still getting headaches every day, most of the day accompanied by nausea and being lathargic.
Have been told by doc nothing they can do but I have to wait it out.
Become very intolerable to noise etc , anxiety ...and so on.
Never been sick before so like you very p*ssed off.
Can't drink even a half pint of beer without getting a massive headache!
So my sympathies to you.0 -
it might have been misdiagnosed ?? 2 years ago i had similar symptoms after crash .my gp kept coming up with different explanations so i insisted on seeing a specialist. turned out that some crystals that we all have in our ear canals had worked there way loose.this is called bppv.there is a simple procedure to fix it and then physio.i,ve only just recovered properley .might be worth checking this out0

hi,
I suffered my 3rd concussion in a year this past october 2008, and have symptoms to this day (a year later). still have memory problems and learning issues in school. i have been medically diagnosed with PCS (Post Concussion Syndrome) so this is very possible you may have the same thing. By the sounds of it you do. See a concussion expert. I live in canada and travelled to University of Pittsburgh to see a concussion expert. There are things you can do to help. Work with your brain, do crosswords, read, do things that work your mind. They put me on medication to allow my brain to function easier and then took me off 3 months later. Trust me, i know how you feel. i had headaches ALL DAY EVERY DAY from october 2008 til end of february 2009. 4 months STRAIGHT with headaches and they are NOW recurring in school.
Take care of yourself, you can also work out given that symptoms do not occur. if they do, ease up. Work out up to a certain point where u do not feel symptoms but are getting SOMETHING out of workout. I worked out for a month and then stopped cuz i gave up on sports and lost all motivation.
Hope that helps, ive had 6 concussions in 7 years from hockey and they are more serious than people believe. Take care...robo910 -
Feel for you mate had a bad concussion when I was 20 got knocked out playing rugby finished the season for me.
It took a month for my symptoms to go it wasnt a case of slowly getting better I was rotten till one day I woke up and it was like someone had removed a huge weight from my head the headaches had gone and I was able to think clearly.
Hope your better soon and back on your bike.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0
