One for the ladies me thinks. :)

Have a look in the Road Classifieds section too and, if needs be, put up a "Wanted" post.
    FCN 2-4.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."

I am not familiar with the specialized globe carmel 3 , but I have had a Speciliazed Expedition Elite since 2005 (I think it is round about the same price range) and even though I am about 18 stone and have no respect for the bike or curbs (and I am quite accident prone), I have not managed to break it yet! My gears are not changing as they should, but I believe that is self inflicted as I have never had it serviced.

If you are looking for something cheap and you are willing to put the bike together yourself, it may be worth it to have a look at some of the German websites, you may be able to get a very nice bike in your price range...just remeber to take the shipping costs into account.
  • :o thankyou so much i too am constantly trying to transform into cycling babe

What do you mean by the "axel broke"? That sounds like it was the wheel, and wheels are both repairable and replaceable, and that might well be a cheaper and better option than spending £300. I know it's a lot of money, but it's not a lot of money for a bike so you're not going to be getting great components at that price point. Half that could well buy you bombproof wheels much more suitable to your needs.

i hade a specialized globe and loved it. only reason i dont have it anymore is cos it got mashed up by a lorry. it's a good, sturdy, easy bike.

How are you doing, jemjah? Are you fully recovered now?
