hi, when i finally manage to get a bike i want to store it in my garage, problem is i have a track car in there too. so i saw these pulley systems on ebay that lifts the bike up. but im not so convinced it will go high enough, so has anyone managed to store their bike on the ceiling but have the bike sideways rather than upright. the link below will explain what i mean.

They're from either Lidl or Aldi, cost about £4.99.Northwind wrote: It's like I covered it in superglue and rode it through ebay.0

I'm under the impression its not good to have them on their sides/up side down for too long due to the oil in forks and shocks not sitting where its suppose too :?0
-
It isn't great for forks, shocks and potentially brakes. However if you sit it the right way up and cycle the forks it normally sorts itself out fine.0

oh yeh i forgot about oil in the forks. valid point. thanks guys0

A track car in the garage??
Isn't that what tarpaulins were invented for?0 -
tarpaulin over my car behave yourself!
only reason i bought the house im in was because it had room for the car.0 -
Well this sound like the perfect excuse for a very large garden shed/workshop, just like my one.

i have a huge shed, 1 got 24 slicks in there. plus spares galore! space is limited hence why the bike need to go up. garage has a apex roox but it needs boarding out for equiptment storage thats why i wanted the bike on its side. hey ho im sure i will find somewhere for it.0

Those lift things are pretty pointless, if you want to suspend the bike then all you need is a couple of hooks (Tesco sell them for £1 a pair) and bob's your uncle, just lift the bikes onto the hooks. I suppose the lifts might be good if you have a really high garage roof...Uncompromising extremist0

my mum asked me earlier to remove my bike from the hall. I did. She was happy.
However she hasnt looked what is wedged inside the downstairs toilet room....haha it just fits in. Result.
And i mean just fits...0 -

i cant believe ur shed has had nearly 4500 views....some people need to get out more. And yes i include myself in those people, as i have just taken a sneaky peak.0

See at the bottom left hand corner where the door swings shut. I touches the tyre when closed, and the rear wheel is touching the back wall.
....im in for it tomorrow, hopefully i can get it out and muddy and back in again before she realizes! mwhahaha she should have let me keep it in the hall :twisted:0 -
Hi guys, 2nd post after a wee while reading and deciding on a new bike, finally got myself a Giant XTC 3.5 as replacement for my last bike which was stolen from inside my close... bu**ers came equipped to steal as had a half decent quality lock too... Never mind, enabled me to upgrade with the help of the insurance payout! 8)
Anyway... now I have the new bike Im reluctant (obviously) to keep it in the same place, so have resorted to keeping it in the house... hallway to be exact... but its now in the way as I live in a fairly small 1 bedroom flat. The only real option open is to hang it by the front or rear wheel in the utility room off the bedroom, was wondering if anyone has any advice? The size of the room means Im unable to use the handlebars / seat pulley system.
Ive had a wee search and and see people with road bikes say this is an acceptable way to store a bike, obviously they dont have the front suspension forks to deal with though so would hanging present any problems??
The forks are Rockshox TORA 302's
Cheers for any thoughts and advice

I am trying to make room in my shed/outhouse for 3 bikes, I have had a Scale in it for 16 months stored with front wheel half way up the wall and the Toras were fine, it did get a dailyish ride though.
No space for a shed so i may have to keep my soon to be best bike in house (under the stairs) but its going to be just such a pain. Or relegate the Scale to camping outdoors.
Back to main post, do you ride it often? is it not pos to lift it next to a wall and turn the bars or is that just too much of a faff?fly like a mouse, run like a cushion be the small bookcase!0 -
I live in a little 2 bedroom town house (3 floors) which has no basement, no garden (or space for a shed) and no storage space inside the house..... and I currently own 4 bikes.
At the mo I have them all in the living room (which is now more like a workshop) but a couple of these pully systems mounted on the ceiling could maybe help here.
Very tempted to try one.Canyon Spectral AL 9.0 EX
