Fitting Tubus lightweight racks
I'm thinking of getting one of the lightweight Tubus racks for my roadbike (Cannondale R600), one like the Fly:
http://www.tubus.com/index/lang/en/rubr ... d%2028%22/
What I can't work out from the website is: - can this be fixed on a bike with dual pivot brakes? As the single strut connects to the boss on the bridge stay, does this mean its only compatible with cantilevers and v-brakes?
I see that there is an accessory for clamping on the seat stay, but its not clear to me from the drawing on the website if this is intended to allow you to 'bypass' the rear brake.

I have wondered that about the Fly. I think the accessory is just a type of P-clip for when there are no rack mounts, with a "dual stay" rack, however, it may work fine with the stay attached to just one seat stay. Best bet would be to email Tubus, I would expect them to be helpful (and probably able to write perfect English).
Whilst Tubus are IMHO simply the best, have you seen the new Tortec Velocity, weighs 380g (50g more than the fly) and costs around £26. The stays at the top could be attached with p-clips.0 -
Thanks alfablue,
the problem with the Tortec is that (so far as I can see) they don't do an option for mounting on the spindle - I don't have eyelets on the stay and I'm a bit dubious about using p-clips on the frame (from past experience, they can leave depression marks on thinwalled alu).0 -
Ah, yes, understood. However, good quality rubber lined p-clips have worked well for me. The Tubus ones are good, or www.stagonset.co.uk sell good ones.
Alternatively, what about an M-Part seatpost clamp with rack mount? That way you can use any rack..0 -
Ah, I hadn't thought of the M-part clamp. I actually have one somewhere - I bought it to attach my oldmanmountain rack to the road bike, but the stays just aren't long enough to reach the seatpost (hence my experience of p-clips). I would assume (hope) that the end of the Tubus strut could be twisted to the right angle required? hmm... I hate bodging when the equipment is so expensive in the first place....0
