RockShox Tora 302 design fault

I’m not sure if this has been covered before, but I’ll post it anyway.

I purchased a GT Avalanche which came with Rockshox Tora 302 85mm – 130mm forks. After about a year the forks stopped compressing and the lock out stopped working so I took the bike to my local repair shop and they said the oil was too watery and we blamed this on me jet washing the bike. Which I was very carefully when I did! This repair lasted for about 2 months and the forks locked again so again I took the forks back to my local shop and again they did the bizz and they started working. This time they lasted a few months but ultimately did the same thing, however this time I just left them as I’d got a new bike and wasn’t that bothered.

I was then told by a mechanic at Mountain Mayhem Rockshox had produced a replacement part for these forks as there was a design fault with them. So I spoke with the shop I bought the bike from and they sent the part to me and said to take the bike to my local shop, have them fit the part and send him the bill.

I hope this helps anyone else who is having the same problem with said forks.

what is the part they sent you as I am running 318s and have had nothing but problems with the lockout, I have serviced and changed the oil that many times so would be interested in what rockshox actually made to fix the fault

was it the rebound damper by any chance? There was a thread previously about this if so http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12634360

I have just had the fin of fixinf mine as the fork was topping out and lost some daming performance. Will get to test ride it after the rest of the service is done today to see if it has worked. A replacement would be nice of there is one going though.

thats exactly what it was. I can't tell you the difference between the two as I don't have them to compare.

What I can tell you though is the forks are older than 2yrs but because I'd paid to have them fixed within the warranty period then there wasn't a problem,

I think ill get right on to the shop i got the forks from. I just hope bodging it hasn't invalidated my ability to claim!

Few months ago my local shop has replaced the rebound cartridge on my Tora 302 fork. They were saying that they have fitted replacement cartridge on more than 100 bikes so far. It should be free as part of the warranty.
