    A wet arse 30 minutes into a 4-5 hour ride isn't fun...

Loads of threads on this, recent too.

Depends where you are what you're doing. Get a mouth full of cow, horse or dog shite while wet riding at speed and you won't be too arsed about posing.

Yeah mine look wrong on my bike, but the amount of mud that was stuck to them and not my face and back yesterday was well worth iit. What;s wrong with not wanting to get covered in several kinds of sh!t?

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford?

I agree they look naff be I didn't use them for years. Then I tried them - it was a eureka moment! So now they go on, I don't get a face full and my wifes happy as I no longer wreck the washing machine :)

In an ideal world it would be great not to use them however an ideal world this is not.

Wet arse is bad, a face full of dog, cow, sheep, horse or human sheet is just wrong. Mudgaurds should be renamed shitegaurds due to amount of crap where I ride.
Recently invested in one of those Neo-Gaurds and tbf it works a treat

Crap in the eyes is bad, you can't see. So you wear glasses, then they get covered in crap instead and you still can't see. So you fit a good mudguard, and you can see. This alone is enough for me to fit a guard...

i use an inner tube betwenn crown and fork brace, works a treat and it doesnt look so silly imo..... the winter fullface keeps my head warm and keeps the crap away, killing two posible posible problems, goggles also cover a larger surface than glasses so less muck can get on your face .... i do always get a muddy chin tho

I got poo on my face last weekend. Not sure I looked too cool at that point.

At the end of the day, nobody really looks cool on a bike. However, the NeoGuards mentioned earlier (http://www.rapidracerproducts.com/NeoGuard.htm) are a great, aesthetically unobtrusive compromise.

My bike looks great with the 09 Crudcatcher fitted. Never been a fan of rear or fork-mounted mudguards though.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I use front and read guards on my XC bike if I think there is likely to be a lot of wet mud; otherwise I would generally leave the front on to stop lose grit or the dreaded dog tu*d flying up into my face.

On my FR bike I dont use either since the dog plop issue isn't as great and the frame is so chunky at the front that it acts like a front mudguard anyway.

I think keeping yourself dry and free from dog muck makes up for the bike looking a little un-sexy with the mudguards on.
