It is slightly used and there's some minor damage to the carbon fibre........
.
Oh yeah, the mounting bolt is a bit dodgy too!
P&P £30.00!!!!

Does it still give smooth shifting? If so, I'll have it..0
-
did it get in the spokes?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Unlucky fella. How you do it?
Fair play for finding all the bits though.
Bit of sticky tape and a bog roll an it'll be fine.0 -
I'm suprised you can see to type through the tearsPictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

Yeah it did go in the spokes, but luckily the carbon shattered rather than my wheel!
Thank god Merlin were open late last night and yes I am now £95 lighter, could have been worse I suppose, it could have cost a wheel rebuild too!0 -
What bike is that for anyway? Wouldnt an XT one just do the job as well, without being so fragile?0
-
I did consider an XT one, but decided that if I had an XT one and that went in to the spokes, then it would have mullered my wheel too, with it being metal and not 'wonder plastic' (It was on my Orange 5)Cat With No Tail wrote:Unlucky fella. How you do it?
I'm not entirely sure, I was up Gisburn Forest blasting through the rocky section when I heard a horrible crunching noise, it must have pinged into the wheel some how, probably due to the massive G-forces I was subjecting it to!!!!!!0 -

Only £799!!
Lightweight (<120 grams) and compact, so would probably not get caught in spokes anyway! Bargain at the price!

I've got some epoxy resin in the garage, I might have a go at gluing it all back together if I'm bored. But the top bolt ripped it's head clean off too. Also the bearing in the lower jockey wheel has pulled through at a crooked angle, all in all I think it's dead!
Keep an eye out on Ebay for a 'prototype' XTR rear mech!!!!!0 -
I've always opted for XT rear mechs, and they're never borked my wheel up. If they get whacked into the wheel by a rock, or by the bushes wearing out, then they simply take out the mech hanger.
Several times over the years now, and not one busted wheel. :!:0 -
I've had a crappy solid chunky monkey of a rear mech rip itself to shreds in my rear wheel. It was a low end sram one. But luckily for me, the wheel was cheeper and i think the spokes were actually extended tent pegs, so they didnt brake at all0

Is this a common problem with a shadow type mech?
I've recently bought a xtr mech and don't fancy it going through my rear wheel!S-Works HT0 -
I don't think it's a common problem, no. If anything, my shadow mech seems much more laterally stiff than either the old non-shadow XT, or a Sram x.7 or X.90
-
I've fixed it now!
Took a bit of time and patience, but I don't think anyone will be able to tell.....

Bet you had a long walk home, the rocky section is about as far as you can get from Tosside or Cocklet Hill.
Ironic really when you consider the shadow design was supposed reduce the risk of this happening :roll:It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
reduce, not eliminate, being the operative word.0

No walking, I single speeded it!
I even went down the 'coaster which was just as much fun trying to keep up with my mate on his Meta 5.5, I gave up pedalling then and hitched a tow off his camelbak straps!
I did notice that the back wheel was fairly buckled, not sure if that was a cause or as a result?!0
