I agree that you don't see a lot of openings in the papers, but I was thinking he could do children's parties - 200 notes for 3 hour's work, cash in hand...
Will,
I had a look at your CV. Apart from the little typing error (you need a capital G in "general") it looks OK. You could do with sexing it up a bit though; for example, "cleaner" sounds a bit dull. I know that's what you did, but just think how many other people have got CVs like that - you need to set yourself apart.
Have you signed on at an agency like Kelly's?
Do you like the outdoors, by the way? It might be a bit late for this year but I worked for the Field Studies Council for a year. They pay minimum wage, but all food and accommodation is included, so it would get you out of your parent's house. They are in nice rural ares with fantastic cycling opportunities. I signed up for 6 weeks and stayed for a year!....Just an idea.

I hear the army are looking, get to work out doors, travel and learn a trade at the same time.0

I was thinking of signing on at this local agency but it seemed they would not be many jobs round here and all factory jobs and my dad was telling me about how they treat factory workers like ****.
I do like outdoors, that Field studies sounds good and sounds like something to do after college, take a year out, especially if it's in a nice area with good cycling prospects I'd really like that. I'm not sure where to find out about working there, the website aint much good.0 -
Will, its temporary, you have little experience and there is a recession on. Be prepared to knuckle down and do something you dont want to do for a while mate. We have all done it and some of us are probably doing it again. Take the money and get something on your CV, next year someone will see your CV and possibly think the boy wants to graft I will give him a go. I was running a Parts dept for a Car Dealer in my early 20's, a year later I as cleaning secondhand cars after losing my job in the last recession.
I would sign on at all of the Agencies that I could. Then call them every 2 days to see if they have found work for you. Yes that does work, I was a Recruitment Consultant too, for a while. That was almost as bad as cleaning cars in the cold .0 -
I'd rather clean cars in the cold than sit in an office, I'd not mind it tbh.. It's nice to see a dirt car look clean that you've cleaned, same for the bicycle.
I don't know if it's too late to sign on at an agency, I mean I'm only here until September, so not really long for work?
I know I seem picky but it does not mean I'm lazy and I don't want a job, I'd be so much happier with a job even if it was not a good job, I'd have more money, I'd be faster on my bicycle and I'd not be constantly stressed and I'd be able to justify playing computer games once in a while, I don't like playing many games cause I think I should be working and not sat here. Going on the bike cures it for abit as that's hard work sometimes even though it's not a job
When I go back to Manchester I want to go into the bike shops and ask if they've got any work, but I cant imagine what they'd have for a novice to cycling, I'd volunteer for abit too as I've got my student loan to live off.0 -
If its only for a few weeks then its probably not worth spending a day traipsing around all the agencies. Go and talk to a couple. Nothing ventured....You will only lose a Morning.
How will working make you faster on your bike ? You are young, train harder Grasshopper :P . Im 39, I can only go faster by buying lighter components and silly priced bibs, ask anyone my age .0 -

Because when I'm in a really good mood or just happy and not stressed I am faster and improve better.0 -
Become a muslim, then go on the dole, say you can't get work coz everyone is racist/ religionist (or whatever they call it) they'll probably give you a house and everything. Rent one of the rooms out and buy a better bike0

Hi Will,
Just write to their head office and tell them that you'd like an application form, or call, or email. It's that simple.
I had a succession of jobs from the age of 15 onwards including cooking in a fish and chip shop (you always smell of fat) , working in a jeweller's shop (boring, except at Christmas, when it's boring and knackering), working at a supermarket pushing trolleys and stacking shelves (not rewarding), working at Mattelan (I once watched a fellow temp spend an entire 8 hour shift folding jeans), typing names into a database and stuffing envelopes (less than thrilling).
The thing that kept me going was, apart from the money, the fact that they were all temporary and I knew I wouldn't be doing them for the rest of my life. Unlike the full time permenent staff.......

pottssteve.
I've got an interview at the Yorkshire wildlife trust, it's only voluntary with £40 a week in expenses but still, should be better than nothing if I get the place.0 -
Will,
That's great! Do you know much about wildlife? What do they expect you to do?
If you want any interview tips, just let me know.

Thanks.
I don't know much about wildlife but no experience was needed, I have an interest in wildlife though and rather do outdoor stuff than indoors.0 -
