Hey - can anyone recommend a good road bike for my wife for under £450? Thanks!

Myself and a few other woman in my club all started on Giants that ranged between £350 and £500. It's been 3 years and they've become our winter training bikes. Good value for money.

Thanks for the advice - you're talking about the Avail range I guess? Cheapest I could find in that was the Avail 3 at around £500, with a Sora set-up.

They were models from the SCR and OCR range both Tiagra setup.

I don’t know much about the 09 cheaper models and have seen the prices have gone up. Specialized also make reliable entry level bikes that retail for about £500. Depending on when you need the bike, I’d wait another month or two for the sales to start and you'll get a good bike at a decent price.

thanks, good advice. No problems with "male" geom then? Obvious answer is get it fitted, but would like to know from experience as well(!)

mclarent, I'm in the same position. I am currently awaiting the sales season to start. I've narrowed it down to the majors Giant Avail, Spesh Dolce or Trek 1.x but I'm not fixed on anything in particular, I'll see what deals crop up in the coming weeks.

I'd love to build a frameset up but I don't see too many women-specific framesets knocking about.

I'll update this thread when I see decent deals, may I ask you to do the same?
