Bloody Door...

I'm a bit upset. After my commute today I showered and then as I left the shower room, I cracked my forehead on the edge of the door of the shower room at work this morning.

It didn't hurt at the time but when I got inthe lift to go up to the office, I noticed in the mirrors that it was bleeding, the blood was running down the middle of my face. I'd thought it was sweat before I saw it.

I walked into the office wiping the blood away and was immediately told that I should go to Boots to get some "butterfly stitch"/pasters or it would cause a scar. I bought them and have tried to pull the 2 sides of the cut together. I really don't want a horrible scar down the side of my forehead.... Anyone got any suggestions?

best advise for head cuts is get someone else to treat it. It hurst a bit more, but is far easier.

    Chicks dig scars, apparently.

What were the medical qualifications of the person who told you it would cause a scar?

I've whacked the top of my head on the car boot and I'm not aware of a scar.

Get someone else to do it for you. Do you have someone trained in first aid in your office?

    Jaysus, calm yourself.

How big a cut are we talking here? Skin's really good at healing, you see.

If you're really worried then go to A&E and have them glue it back together. But don't come crying to me when you have to wait 8 hours....

None of the chick seem particularly impressed now that I've stuck 2 "Nexcare Steri Strips" over it. I just look like an idiot with a plaster on my forehead. Sigh.

The 1st aid woman told me to get the strips but a guy who works here who used to be in the army told me to get a needle and thread and he'd stitch me up properly. I went for the 1st option.

It's about an inch or so, then it stops then there's another bit which is about a centimetre. they're both perfectly straight lines. They're not that deep TBH but they bled a lot, although it's stopped now. Woman opposite me told me to go to A&E but I really don't think it's that bad.

I didn't go to A&E when I crashed into a car and did a Superman over the bonnet onto my head, so I don't think I should go for this. I just hope it doesn't scar. I suppose the only thing I can do is stick to the plaster things and hope for the best. I just wondered if someone here might have some amazing cream or idea for stopping scars.

Headhuunter, people don't need to know the truth regarding what cause it.

Good thinking. I've told everyone at work what happened, but no one else knows!

Are they gaping? i.e. are they deep enough that the middle of the cut is wider (because of the depth)? Head cuts do bleed a lot, deep or not.

I'm guessing that if you don't want to go to A&E they're not that bad.

Buy some vitamin e capsules and a pin, apply the oil from the capsules directly to the 'wound'. That will help with any scarring.

Stitch it yourself, using cat gut and a spoon for threading. Clean with vodka.

Sounds like you've got it sorted, if it scars it scars, if not then not. Who wants to arrive at the grave with a pristine body?

Once it scabs up apply sudocrem to it a couple of times a day, this should really help it heal up and reduce any scaring. I wouldn't apply it while the wound is still open though.

As for scaring,as long as you don't allow the cut and later scab to dry up - keep it moist - you should be ok.
