OK peeps, it seems a few of us are interested in this madcap idea

Nothing to do with Sarajoys legs and bum of course

Who's in?

And of course it would be handy in the yokels could let us know when they're about

    Stop!

But, if you'd like a welcoming picnic (or round down the pub should weather be less nice) from me, it can't be the August bank hol, as I'm away :)

I could come and meet you on the outskirts of Brizzle and guide you in for the last few miles to Sara's picnic and legs/bum.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Sorry, think I missed part one. Is the plan to cycle from London to Bristol? I'd be up for that. What sort of speed are you thinking?

I normally average about 19-20, but I think it'll probably be arround the 15mph mark. I don't want to be completely knackered on my night out in Brizzle :lol::lol:

I haven't worked out the logistics of getting back yet, it'll probably be by pedal power

I am busy on that weekend but if it is the only date people can do then I may be able to change my plans. I can meet with Redvee and guide you all in as well.

My Gin Deck would be open to all those who make it...

(yes, I do have a gin deck. I also have a rotating summerhouse. Get me). I may not be able to stretch to (available) fit birds though.

  • back on subject which rout are you likely going to be taking

    A4 Bath Road - 90ish miles
A4 then Picking up the bath road - 90ish miles
    A41 150ish miles

Really kind of looking forward to it to be honest

That implies a dgree of planning or fore thought - not my forte unfortunately. I just put these stupid ideas out there and let other people handle the logistics

I had thought about a blast down the A4 picking up the Bath road. I haven't ever tried using the A4 so I was hoping for some friendly advice from the nice peeps on here

Later would be good, tempting to come along but can't say 100% till August and work commitments are more certain.

Action Medical Research do a 100ish mile ride from Bristol/Bath to London on the Bank Holiday Sunday. A4 west of Reading, then head for Kingston....they map it out on their website if you are interested....http://www.action.org.uk/get_involved/101227/route
  • London/Bristol is 120 miles on the motorway so it'll probably be at least than long whichever roads you take. If you can do that in a day then go out for the night I must say "chapeau" to you. I wouldn't choose the A4 - it's fairly nasty and fast. Similar discussion been had on bikely a while ago - I'll post link when I find it.

Cheers guys, any info is helpful.

For anyone planning on joining me, I'm pretty certain it'l be the 5/6th September.

@nicktheluddite, I'll probably fall over after a pint of their scrumpy after 120 miles. They can continue plying me with drink on the floor from there on in :lol: I usually find a tube and funnel does the trick

You know - I'd love to do this... but the sheer logistics of getting me and the bike to London and then back from Brizzle would be a nightmare...

    that and 120 miles!

+1 for forming the reception committee, let me know the route you're planning and I'll see if I can make it out to giude you in for the last 50 or so miles, thereby doing similar mileage to you.

Having done the Action Bristol to London a couple of times I'd say the A4 route really isn't that bad, very flat but you're almost guaranteed a headwind all the way.

Thanks Attica, it'd be good to have some more company.

I think the A4 will be the best bet, there's less chance of getting lost, and it should be a reasonably quick blast :lol:

I'm liking the sound of this more and more (apart from the headwind part) so I am going to do what I can to make it. Where you think would be best to start from in London? Might have to plan trip down on the old train to the startline :lol::lol:
