New form of EPO apparently.. More advanced than CERA?

Where did this story come from?

    More here

Can we nickname this one Operation Passo?

Sounds like it could blow up big stylee with team managers involved.

A former head of Serbian cycling was arrested with thirty other people, including around a dozen pro cyclists by the Padua police in north Italy.

    Ooh, drama.

Can someone who speaks Italian tell us in what context Rebellin and Sella are named here:

    http://sportitalia.com/shownews.aspx?id=5370

I tried Google translation but still can't figure it out. Surely they haven't been arrested?

Also - one minor arrested after being videotaped undergoing "treatment" while his dad accompanied him. Nice. Gotta have parents permission if you want to dope up kids - it would be unethical otherwise.

Other names mentioned - Rodolfo Massi is a former pro who won stages of the Tour and the Giro in the 1990s. His nickname apparently was "the pharmacist"

My tourist Italian reads that as saying that none of the professionals arrested have been officially named, but the names circulating unofficially include those of Rebellin, Sella, Ricco (although he has denied this personally), Priam, Moletta, Novembrini and Gajcic.

That's what I thought it said, but wow, that's big

Simone Mori, one of the DSes mentioned is manager of Amica Chips-Knauf.

Moletta, remember, was kicked out of the Giro after his dad was found with a car-full of viagra.

Priamo (?) was the rider Sella named as his supplier. Former CSF-Navigare rider.

Ricco named too, as well as Priamo and Molletta. But often the police launch big raids and don't get many people in the end. It does sound as the Serbian coach was exploiting lax rules at home to run a thriving export business, selling a lot of banned substances to Italians.

It sounds like a major operation to me. Those arrested include team directors and employees of unnamed pharmaceutical companies. The Guardia di Finanza have been gathering evidence for some time, including wire taps and video evidence.

Love this translation. Sella is particularly appropriate. :)
Between the professionals involved there are Davide Rebellin, Emanuele Saddles, Matteo Priamo, Andrea Moletta, Julio Munoz, November Amerigo, Sasa Gajicic and Francesco Revere, while the three sports managers denounced I am Dark Simone (former Friend Chips), Given Giuliani (National Electric Hadimec) and Rodolfo Boulders (Team Boulders).

I expect it won't be long before we get the full story in English.

Aurelio, I think andyp was being ironic and quoting our friend jerkhammer111who has repeated this idea several times in the last few days, although he stopped soon after iainf72 asked him about the Colom, Pfannberger etc

I did realise that. Hope the added emoticon makes that clearer.

Actually, can I retract this entire story?

I originally read it in l'equipe so it must be nonsense.

I wonder if this is just a CERA-hangover from last year. Although, if 10,000 doses of anything was recovered it's clearly still a very lucrative business.

Afx - On the minor thing : I recall in the late 80's reading about a guy working extra jobs to afford steriods for his son who wanted to be a pro (in france) and more recently there were some cases in South Africa where parents were taking their teenagers to doping guys for things like EPO.

Now that you mention it, I do remember that SA story. Love how completely f*cked up this quote is:

"It's not as if I tie up children and then inject them with something from behind. The parents approach me and ask me to help."

    Aaaaah, that's OK then

The minor in Italy was apparently a girl.

Sounds to me like the conclusion of an investigation that would've started sometime in early summer 2008. You know, when two guys whose names are in the article supposedly named names but the authorities couldn't confirm what was said because of an ongoing investigation?

With pharmaceutical people and team officials linked, this could be huge.
