A stats miscellany thread

Because I am anal, I decided this morning to count the number of helmet wearers to non-wearers, and the number of women cyclists to male:

Helmet 43 - 21 Non-helmet
Men 36 - 28 women

I've started this thread so people can either add to these stats and make them a more worthwhile sample size, or can add stats of their own, either they've compiled themselves or have found and think would be worth sharing. RLJ vs non-RLJ would be interesting :)

Yup - and bear in mind I commute 9.15 to 9.45 ish, so I see far fewer than if I were say an hour earlier.

I used to never wear one, do now while commuting, it protects me from the Buckfast bottle wielding brigade on Maryhill Road....

Does the young lad at work cycle himself? Have a fixie? wear jeans clearly designed for women? Frequent LFGSS?

    Helmet - 4 : of those, the number that RLJ - 3 : 3 male / 1 female
No helmet - 1 : of those the number that RLJ -1 : 1 male

I only count those who ride on the road, as those who down are automatically assigned as follows:

It would seem a reasonable conclusion to draw. What's to tell? Horsey girls, farmers daughters probably, out in the open countryside, probably own or have access to a Land Rover as well... What's not to like? Esp when you get a cheery smile & a wave, even the odd hello. That's nice at some strange hour of the morning.

Obviously if ever any of them did try to entice me into the haystack I'd run a mile, being happily married. Obviously I would.

Have tried to count the number of traffic lights and ped crossings on the way to work. Lost count.

I tried visualising them to get to sleep, but fell asleep, so didn't get to the end.

That reminds me, on Tuesday night, I fell aslees and basically went through the fall I had on Tuesday morning in my head. As I hit the tarmac, I burst out of my sleep in shock and scared the shit out of my girlfriend.

The worrying thing was, untill then, I had partial recollection of how I fell and skidded and how my body was shaped to get the cuts and knocks where I did, but after that, I know exactly what happened from start to finish :?

The only conclusion I've so far drawn from this thread is that some people apparently count the number of people wearing helmets or otherwise every day.

That is really quite odd :?

Yeah to get this thread going in one day is weird don't you think?
I'm also amazed that you can tally 4 different types of stat.

This happened to me last Tuesday morning, then again on Tuesday afternoon, four more times on Wednesday and a further 17 times on Thursday. I really should be more careful...

Not that amazing, unless you have a memory of a fish...I did my commute between 7-8am, tallied numbers at 9-10, thats only 2 hours after it happened.

I only passed 3 people, and I have seen all 3 every day I commute for the last year. I could also tell you what sort of jacket they wore, the aftershave they had on, and what they had for breakfast. So "only" 4 stats is taking it very easy....

Wish me luck on my last Maryhill Road run before my holidays!!
