Rear derailleur alignment

I have a Deore XT shadow on my rear cassette, but ever since I first fitted it (new) it has leaned right in towards the wheel. Now it seems to be leaning in more than ever. I know the shadow is supposed to have a lower profile and not stick out as much but this is getting silly.

Shouldn't the line of the derailleur and chain travel, pass directly underneath and in line with the cog that the chain is riding on when viewed from above? Or at least only sufficient "leaning" to help it line up with the chain rings?

sounds like the mech hanger is bent.

get it looked at by a shop and either straightened or replaced.
