How much is too much for bar tape?

Need to get some new bar tape, and fancy a bit of white euro-pro bling - which is bye the bye.

I know my thoughts on this, but what are people happy to pay for tape given that some it is an f'ing fortune. However, it is a critical contact point... oh, the dilema.
It doesn't get any easier, but I don't appear to be getting any faster.

i managed to rip mine off in a crash not long ago. Got the LBS to put some new white specialized tape on and got that for less than a tenner. Very good deal.

Only problem first time I did some work on the bike got oil all over the tape and now the shinny new look has been ruined

I got the specialised stuff for about a tenner and it's very comfy, and is standing up ok to the daily commuting abuse...

I never pay more than a tenner. I always use Deda though, which is one of the cheapest (but best imo). If you keep an eye out for the deals from Ribble et al, you can often pick it up for 6 or 7 quid. Plenty of colours available too.

If you include the likes of Brooks leather tape, then £40 is about the maximum. The new Lizards Skin stuff is over £20 a roll too. I'm happy to pay a tenner for the Fizik stuff, some of which is 4-5 years old and has withstood numerous scrubbing-ups from acute mould growth from spilt energy drink back to gleaming white. My biggest diappointment has been with Eleganza tape - it's manky after 6 months and will not clean up.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I just use fairly cheap white cork type stuff - that way you can always replace it when it gets a bit grubby if it wont clean up.

+1 for me. Get some good degreaser and wipe it down often and it will last longer.
