Im looking at getting a new bike possibly with a more burlier and play bike feel, but cant work out how a Driver 8 or and Intense Uzzi is worth the price tag (although id love either) over a Big hit ignoring the initial spec just as a frameset I mean. I have a meta5 now and Im finding that I am bottoming out the shock even with it pumed up quite high. Any one with and experience with longer travel bikes that can still climb to some degree I would love to hear your thoughts... am I along the right track or should I stop being such a tart, is it possible to ride these kinds of bikes uphill or are the manu's blowing smoke up our seat tubes?

speak now..

What terrain are you riding? Outside the Meta envolope?

Maybe that you need the shock tuning.

Yo, well mostly it will be rough arse moorland, with a few weeks a year of polished trail centre up scotland and whatever in between. I spoke to my LBS and I think due to my size and weight im 6"3' and erm...heavy a coil may be the way to go. At the mo I cant really afford any new bike but thought would be good to plan ahead maybe for xmas time.

quote is one of the best of all time lol

It seems to me that you don't really need a harder bike than what you have: for trail centres, XC, and general trail thrashing, the Meta sounds perfect.

How much do you weigh? Could be a factor, but many shocks can be tuned. Might be that you just need a bit of tuning and maybe some upgrades or swaps.

PS which Uzzi was it? This is nice and cheap!:

You DO NOT want a Driver 8 or Uzzi for climbing! It would be utter madness!

Yeah I realise these bikes arent going to compete with a meta at climbing but I was thinking of putting the hammerschmit on and that might make it easier to ride. You see im not one of these rip round the trail in under the recommended time, im more of a hour over the time. Where we ride where I live the hils arent really climb friendly either more push up and hammer down and hope for the best from the shocks, hence a few of troubles. I weigh about 17 stone but perhaps I could speak to TF tuned see what they think. Or maybe I should just get a cheaper dh or freeride bike for the abusive rides/fooling around, just wanted to know how and why these other bikes where so expensive and if spendig again I want to make sure what I get lasts. Many reviews etc suggest these bikes are more versatile I tihnk one review said 'you could need one less bike'......
