I'm eyeing up an ST4 pro but it's an 08 model with the round chainstays. I understand that currently shipped ones now have squared chainstays for extra stiffness.

Can anyone tell me if this design change makes a noticeable difference to the ride at all as none of the reviews mention it?

    HI Pedlad

Mine has the new "square" type on and have ridden the one with oval design too,yes the square tyre is marginally stiffer, but I also being vain  do prefer the looks of the square type chainstay.
Either way I can't recommend the ST4 high enough,it is fast ,a good climber & also is totally awesome on the trail :D

    Great feedback thanks.

Marginally means that if I can get a deal on the older model I may consider it. Any other feedback would be great.

Square is better it will keep the frame stiif through power transfer
Mainly on road bikes which is not a bad idea.

Best thing is to try the 08 and 09 model and see if you can feel
    the differance

There's a 16" ST4 on offer on the Orange website, you do have to pick it up from Halifax though.
