....when you have to get rid of one of your bikes (read babies, lol).

It's really shite, but unfortunately am having to sell my XC race bike, to help fund my Dad's funeral, and administration, as I'm simply not rich enough to pay out for the expenses... Dammit!

Ahh well, one less... Hopefully I can get away with selling the one, and not have to sell any more! Anyone else had to sell thier bikes for a serious, non-bike related issue? Car, baby, house etc etc...

:cry::cry::cry:

Off to look at bike porn to cheer myself up!

Sorry for both your losses mate.

Never had to sell anything yet, bikes or otherwise, but I sometimes have to do overtime to bridge the gap my love of shiny things creates.

I keep telling myself, 'it's only a bike', but it's not working, lol.

I haven't actually sold it yet, just put it up in the BR classifieds. But needs must, and all that!

Anyway, been looking at some NIIIICE industry Nine wheels, and Foes framesets... Not that I'll ever be able to afford either one, but you can look right!

    Wow, that does suck.

No chance you can borrow money from friends/bank/family?

All my friends are at uni, or have nill money...

Banks would laugh in my face, and the interest would be IN-SANE, so is not really an option. I'm only 21, and ironically, because I'm SO damn ood with money, I've never needed to borrow money off anyone, so have nil credit rating... Grr...

So one of my rides has to go. Preferably fast too...

I'd deliver just about anywhere in the UK if I needed to. C'mon folks, buy my bike!! Anyone...!!! Lol..

    It's in the 'Classifieds' forum - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12636462

And my family have already helped out alot... I only really have my Dad's brothers, and although they've been instrumental in helping out, they aren't minted by any expression...

dude, I actually feel a bit sorry for you, its not a good situation, losing someone and having to sell something important. I'm also bitterly disappointed I cant buy the bike from you and help you out. Severe lack of large amounts of money!

Dude, thanks! But I wouldn't expect ANYONE to buy my bike becuase they felt sorry for me! Lol. Just hope it catches someones eye, and they think, yeah, looks good. I'll buy it...

    Lol.

But again, thanks all the same mate. Looks like we're both in the same boat about the lack of funds!

    I should hope so! Anyway...

My bro has just found a job, but it involves about 4hrs per day of travelling...

He can't drive, so has to catch buses... And it's in the middle of no-where too. But, it's a job, and he has to work!

Good luck in finding a job too mate. I might end up working at a farm for the harvest (on my summer block leave from the Army) to earn a few more pennies... I used to work there when I was 16. Pay was shite, was MEGA hard work, worked loooooong hours, but it's money...

    BAD times, lol.

  • Big chaz, sorry I havnt read all the thread in detail so forgive me if im wrong, but if your unemployed go to the job centre and ask for a funeral payment form, explain you are solely responsible for arranging the funeral etc.
You may be able to cover some if not all the costs.

    Hope it helps.

Sorry to hear of your troubles bigchaz. I lost my Dad when I was a similar agae so I know what its like.

If you've got a bank account and job I'm sure your bank could sort you a shorterm loan for a grand or so.... The repayments would be fairly low on that kind of sum and you get to keep your bike!

Hope everything works out for you fella.

I'm in the same boat, sort of, I'm very sorry to hear about your Dad.

It's horrible to have to "liquidate assets" as the yanks say when life kicks you in the nuts.

Read below about potentionally lending the money to cover it, I'm a finance broker by trade, I only do business finance for assets so can't help you directly, but if you do want to think about loans, etc I'm more than happy to give you any advice I can.

Binned it at Afan a few weeks back, self employed and not being able to work and not being able to ride big stuff for about a year mean I've got to sell my beloved Cove Shocker.

I hope when I'm better and earning again I'll be able to replace it with something a bit less trick like a S/H Demo 8 or something, but it's gonna hurt, badly. Not as much as my arms though...

I am sorry for your loss mate. I am in a similar boat in respect of parents. My father is terminal.

Have you spoken to your bank about your prediciment?

I assume by the fact you are looking for 1.3k for the cannondale, your level of expenditure for the impending funeral is not that high (not that it was something you budgeted for nor wished for).

I would seek advice from CAB, maybe your bank etc before going to such extremes. Due to the size of the funds required i am sure you could obtain adequate funding.

Hope things work out and again i am sorry for your loss.

    Best wishes
    Rich

Thanks for all the positive comments guys! Proves there are ALOT of good guys (and girls!) out there.

The money will be used to pay bills regarding house and car. Funeral is already paid for, but he's left certain amounts of money to his family in his will, so I'm going to do my damnedest to make sure it get's done.

I am VERY flexible on the price of my bike, so if anyone wants to make an offer, it will be considered!

    Thanks again guys!

    bigchazrocks.

Sorry to hear about your loss, my dad died when i was 18 so sympathies.

I am slightly confussed about why you need to sell to fund a will being sorted, if its being contested then you will lose what you raise from your bike, it imo is better to let the legal people sort it and have all parties split the costs through final settlement. Sorry if i am off the mark but i would hate to see you get into something that doesnt require personal sacrifice to see you lose out again. Especially as you have more important personal things to deal with.

Well, there's still a mortgage on the flat, which we can't freeze yet. There's also bills to pay, and a car to tax / MOT etc. Have enough bills to be honest, so the money is kinda needed...

It's alrite saying split the cost through the final settlement, but it works out alot cheaper (interest being the main factor), if the bills can be kept at bay, before they are frozen, and the house is sold.

But thankyou for the advice, as it's a bit of a minefield. Luckily, I may possibly have a potential buyer for the house lined up already, but it will take a few months for the process to unfold.

And rackgaki, I wouldn't get to stressed about my personal and financial circumstances! Lol. You have enough to worry about! But again, thanks for the concern. Really shows that there are good folks about!

As for the bike, it will sell if it catches someones eye. I hope it does, but all I can do is wait! Unfortunately, I was looking for more than £1,000, so £85 is a little short!

Nice try though - you don't ask, you don't get!

gaz047 - I don't know really. Either way, I just need to sell it. I'll get the best price if I sell it on a MTB specific media. eBay is a rip off, so that's a no-go.

Looks like it's here and PB.
