Brum to Nice cycling

Hi,
I've got three weeks off and intend to use 2 of them to cycle from Birmingham to Nice, my first big ride! I'm cheating, I'm only going one way, I'll be getting the TGV/Eurostar/Virgin back home, I'm not that crazy. :-)
I'm trying to figure out the best route. Most direct is Portsmouth-->Caen ferry, which is fine, but it's the French routing that's bothering me. Does anyone have any suggestions of routing websites I could use to find the ideal route? I'd then dump them into a GPS (yet to be acquired).
Thanks guys.

This has two routes ..The tougher Meditarean and the atlantic coast routes. These are orgainised by CTC and are probably the most popular stop offs on route to the south of France..Reckon you wont go much wrong if you follow one ther routes cos they are CTC accreditedjc0
