Tyres, tyres and tyres...

Hi,
My tyres currently on my bike are starting to grow old now, Kenda Nevegal (2.1"), and i'm on the search for some new rubber. Question is what do i go for? I'll be doing some road riding along with off roading in the lakes and other areas. So i don't want purely road tyre or purely off road somewhere in the middle.
I've currently narrowed it down to;
Maxxis Advantage
Maxxis High roller XC
Panaracer Fire XC pro
Kenda Blue Groove Tomac DTC
Don't really want to pay more than £45 for the pair. Are all these tyres good or maybe should I be looking at something else?
Thanks,
Simon

High Roller XC's 2.35 are fantastic in the Lakes. They can be a bit draggy though if that bothers you (it doesn't bother me I just aim to get fitter!) so my ideal combination is a worn one on the back and a new one on the front. Ignitors are pretty good as well and have one on the rear of one of my bikes.
Maxxis UST are superb if you have the rims for it.0 -
vote for panaracers0

If you can stretch that budget just a tiny bit, to £50, you can have a pair of black 2.1 Racing Ralph Evos from Merlin.
I just changed my Ralphs out for some Panaracer Fire XCs which seem a bit better at handling the rocky terrain round here (sidewall is a bit thicker). Still pretty fast, but not as fast as the ralphs.0 -
If you go with the Blue Groove, stick a nevegal DTC on the back- blue grooves are good front end tyres but not so good on the back I find. oh, and the 2.35 Blue Groove stick-e is handcarved from a block of solid rolling resistance
Sticks like mad but you do pay the price. The 2.1 is a much better allround tyre, still sticks like mad.
None of the above are especially good on tarmac mind! Highrollers are very good too, pretty similiar to the nevegals in fact, though I find them slightly less grippy and maybe a hair faster (though I end up going about the same speed). All good tyres in your list in fact.Uncompromising extremist0 -
I`d also look at Nobby Nics/Ralphs or NN front,RR rear.Merlin has some good deals.Massively faster on the road than Nevegals.2006 Giant XTC
2010 Giant Defy Advanced
2016 Boardman Pro 29er
2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4
2017 Canondale Supersix Evo0 -
Thanks for all the comments made, will look at the racing ralphs.
Thanks,

are good, the Smart sams might be a good bet too, 2 for £50 is the best i have seen in a loooong time, though i got my NN's for £45 in 2.25
If not Fire XC kevlars do most things well, and loast on road too0 -
i had the same issue about a month ago and got some conti mountain kings amazing tyres on hard pack and just about anything else you want to chuck at them0

Theyre all good tyres with good repuatations, but if you never thought "dam these tyres: are really slow/have no grip/puncture all the time/wear really quickly" then stick with the nevegals. No point fixing what aint broke. Just get a new pair of them.0
