xt lever compatability

has anyone tried or do they know if you could fit a new XT (servo wave type) lever onto an older XTR calliper (the shiney gunmetal type finish)
I got the xtr pre bled from Merlin (£45 Bargin) a couple of months ago, i dont really know if its old i figured at that price it must be, and love it but the older style lever it uses is a bit lacking. its the inline one with no real adjustment.
as i broke my el camino i am now pondering if i could cobble on together.
