Saw Dave Gorman do stand-up this weekend - he did a part of his routine on cycling in London. Anyone else seen this?

He was in my A level maths class. Bright lad and a nice bloke. Must admit I didnt expect him to be a professional comic...

quite sure - have seen him on telly. It's definitely the same person!

Um... quite apart from disliking anti-ginger jokes because it's the laziest form of knee-jerk nonsense... this is made weirder by the fact that I'm not even ginger.

Yes. But as you could see my actual head with my actual brown hair on the same DVD that shouldn't really be a cause for too much confusion.

You are inadvertently being gingerist by becoming so offended at being called ginger.

There is no way out of this maze of political correctness.

    I know, I know.

Was hoping to see your show in inverness but looks unlikely. So I'll be seeing your show in Aberdeen next year. Good luck on your journey!

Hm. Pointing out that I'm not ginger isn't really the same as being-offended-at-being-called-ginger. There's really no maze. The joke was lazy but more importantly it was inaccurate. D x

No, you are trapped. The only escape would have been to say, "Although I would be delighted to be ginger, sadly I am.....[insert hair colour here]".

You are awfully serious for a comic. Are you sure you aren't a news reader?

Quite sure. Are newsreaders only ever deadly serious and comics only ever funny in your head? Or are they allowed on the internet to talk about stuff, y'know, normally? (If it helps, imagine that I'm smiling as I type and suddenly it's not quite so serious.)

    Hey Dave,

Prawny, whose joke it was, is a lovely chap and was, I think, taking the mickey out of himself, rather than either you or ginger people.

I loved your book about driving across America, especially the way you portrayed yourself so honestly, warts and all. Next time, you could try it on a bike (I would LOVE to do that fwiw).

Yay Dave's in town! I know anti ginger jokes are lazy, like anti veggie jokes and anti lefty jokes.

You have to admit you do have a ginger beard, I've seen your tattoo :D

Edit: D'oh just read the rest of the thread  apologies

For what its worth, I thought it was very funny and an incredibly well crafted show.

I liked the notion of the London cyclist as a 'shapeshifter' as a 'justifcation' for jumping read lights - not sure I agree with it but it was a more compelling argument than normally wheeled out for jumping the lights.

I love Dave too (as a comedian). Sorry if I offended you in any way Dave, I've been a fan for ages. Me and a mate even re enacted the fancy walk bit from the dave gorman collection when we did a gig at the ranger footie ground.

    Hi Dave,

I've been told on several occasions I bear somewhat of a resemblance to yourself, which I've always taken as complimentary even though it was probably not intended as such. Have you ever considered taking on a drunken bet to see how many people you could meet who look a bit like you?

Dave. were you Googling your own name again and chanced upon this, or are you a bit of a lurker here who's always fancied contributing to a cycle-related forum but never quite had the confidence to speak out? We need to know.

The Golden Cone of Gormanism. Priceless that was.

How do we know that Dave Gorman is not just some guy called Dave Gorman. The world's full of them.

    Ten a penny.

18 Years ago a younger me was sitting in a pub trying to impress a burd that a burd mate of mine had visiting for the weekend.

It was all going very well....

    The target burd then said

"Do you know who you remind me of?"

I was hoping for a young Sean Connery or perhaps some other idol

    Johnny Ball.

You do realise, when Dave does his 'Sit down, pedal, pedal, stop, stand-up' tour he'll go from the bottom of the list to the top in about 2 months. As the whole lot can be classed as commuting to work

Fat Kid. I did a traceback of his IP* to suss his lack of miles since he added hissself, and he turns out to be Gordon Brown [The Right Hon]. Who would have thought? It explains the single mile and one puncture therein; he probably got as far as Whitehall before he was set upon by some toughs but then released out of sheer pity.

    *which isn't saved actually.

I haven't. Because nobody "considers taking on drunken bets" do they? Considers and drunken rather cancel each other out. I'm afraid the perception of me as someone who takes on crazzzzy drunken bets is a bit wide of the mark. It's what happens when people write 100 word capsule reviews... their "truth" becomes the truth.

Joined a while ago. I was going to post something requesting help with a long ride I'm doing later this year but wanted to hang around and get a feel for the place. By the time I had the post was irrelevant as I had more offers of help than I could handle from elsewhere. But I still drop in. Just never had anything worth contributing til now because I know when other people know better. On the colour of my hair however, I felt I had sufficient knowledge.

Good point - joined June 26th. Don't let not having anything worth contributing hold you back - it doesn't stop a lot of the regulars. Some of them start endless threads about nothing just to fill the day.

Coo, like, a famous person? Here? Really?

I remember watching you looking for other Dave Gormans quite religiously :) Have rather fallen off the TV-watching bandwagon since, mind (though I /do/ like Grand Designs).

Oh, one of my mates really likes you! She had an obsession with your hippy-style-hoodie for a bit, but eventually she found one of her own.
