A friend of mine kindly gave me a set of HAYES sole disc brakes. My loccal bike shop then told me if I bought the rotors from them they would fit the whole lot for free (nice). The rear is starting to bed in nicely, but the front just wont work. I then noticed that the disc is not centered. They said that the mounts in the fork are a little out!! Also I can pull the lever back to the bar. LBS reckons a bleed might help. There is no more caliper adjustment. Could you put some washers between the hub and disc to help the centering?
Sorry about the numpty questions!!

If they are post mount calipers, which 99% are, you should be able to centre them on that. But be aware that the inner pad is adjustable. Sounds like they need a bleed, maybe new pads and setting up from scratch.

The soles are a real pain due to being a single piston design (ie literally one piston rather than a pair) so as the pads wear you need to keep re-centering the pads.

If the rotor cannot be centered then you need to either shim the rotor (hope make some good shims) or space the caliper across.

I rekon a bleed (couldnt hurt) and shimming the rotor is the way forward. The pads are new. I git them for free so cant complain to much!! Another visit to LBS is in order.
    Thanks for your advice.

both sides of soles can be adjusted by allen key. spacing the disc out isnt a problem really. we have to to it to all the Whyte race 19s we sell (with a big spacer made specificaly by Hope) as the combo of pro2 hub , SID forks and Stroker brakes means that there isnt enough room to play with. and this is a £2k bike!

Are you sure the hydraulic side can be allen key adjusted? I thought it was an open master cyclinder, single sided hydro brake caliper?

The calipers seem to be as far towards the hub as they will go (if that makes sense!). The rotor is almost touching the non piston side.

Is it a post mount or IS caliper?

PS both sides are indeed allen key adjustable.

Its post mount. LBS have put a shimano bracket on as the sole is for 160 and Ive put 180 on. Yeah discovered the allen bolts. The non piston side was wound right in ie very little pad visible.
