Shimano 12 - 27 cassettes

Does anybody know why Shimano 12 - 27 cassettes are so difficult to come by? A lot of on-line retailers show them as discontinued, lbs doesn't have any, this must be a popular size, Shimano website shows them as current. I can't understand it.

I'm not happy with them, have a 105 cassette and it's like cheese, a few rides and the teeth are worn but I had a chain breakage - 105 again - and the new chain won't run on the old cassette, as expected although it's not very old.

Is there an alternative compatible 10-speed cassette available?

In my experience cassettes are generally very hard wearing. Beacuse of the way the teeth are shaped to help shifting its very difficult to tell if its actually worn or not.
Basically i doubt very much if its cassette wear causeing your problems.

I've taken into account the tooth profile and have compared it with a new one from another of my bikes and it is definitely worn. I don't have a mechanical problem, it's just sourcing another cassette of this ratio. Thanks for the response anyway.

I'm not sure what you mean by "difficult to come by" - the first place I looked was CRC, who have both the 105 12-27 cassette in stock and (if you want an alternative) the SRAM PG1070 12-27.

Well I don't believe it. CRC was the first place I looked last night and both Ultegra and 105 were dicontinued, same with some other on-line places. There is even an 11-28 Ultegra which I didn't see last night.
I have since found one at Wiggle which was a bit more expensive.

I will need another soon so will go for the SRAM.
