Hi,
I did Mt Snowdon yesterday and the bike took a real beating, and the front derailleur in particular looks proper mashed from something.
I went on wiggle and thought i would go for a nice shiny XT one but there are two and they are both the same price a 770 and 771 can anyone tell me what the difference is and which one I will need on a 2009 Spesh FSR XC Pro?

Sorry if its a bit of a noob question but ive only had a bike for 6 weeks.

thanks for your help all

The frame clamp sits in a different place - ie top swing and bottom swing. Can you see the difference now?

    You need a 770.
  • Thanks supersonic but its kind of lost on me :(
Now I know to go for the 770 do I need the Dual Pull or the Dual Pull Top Swing?

All the M770 are top swing, all M771 bottom swing. All are dual pull!

  • Its just I have a choice of two on here and I dont know which I need :(

Ah, I see the confusion - not the best description from wiggle. If you look closely you can see the words BB mount on the top one (is a M770E). That is not the one you need, so go for the bottom one.
  • Perfect, thats what I was after thanks again supersonic! On closer inspection ive bent a load of teeth on the outer gear wheel too, must have been a big rock :( best 15 minutes of my life but its gonna cost a fortune!!

Similar thing happened to me. Broke SRAM X7 clamp, tried to put XT front mech from hardtail onto Full Sus. Wouldn't fit! Had to buy new XT Shimano one, which I'll be fitting today-arrived yesterday.

Has the Mtb World ever heard the word compatible? Top-pull-bottom-pull-top-swing-bottom-swing-e-plate-blah-blah-blah...

I had so much crap with a rear mech, that I thought of going for the internal hub type, til I saw the price! U can buy a nice h/tail for the equivalent cost.

If Lottery comes up, I'll get me one. Nice Ti h/tail, Sram XX, internal geared hub, Fox fork, Thudbuster. Be able to tackle 99.9% of the Worlds trails.

I hope you weren't riding during the voluntary ban, or you could be contributing to the complete banning of mountain bikes on Snowdon.
  • I was not, but thanks for the reminder incase I didnt read about this on the internet or read the signs on Snowdon or perhaps you think it possible for me to be a complete moron or perhaps your a patronising Tw@?
Though on the two occasions I have walked up I have seen people descending well after 10AM.

    Fu*k you.
I wasn't being patronising, I was generally enquiring, with a mind to reminding other people who may be reading this and think "Oh, lets do Snowdon this weekend" that there's a voluntary ban.

But if you want to be a bitch about it, go ahead.
