Help: Tyre Size on Specialized Allez?
I know this sounds dumb, but I bought a Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyre.
Took it with me out the other day on a long ride, got an inevitable puncture then realised the tyre I had was not the right size (too big)
I think it said 28x1 700 x 26 or something like that. Anyway, I threw it out.
What size should I get for a Specialised Allez?
Would someone be kind enough to explain all the numbers?

Can you clarify this, did you take a spare tyre with you or a spare inner tube?
A 700c inner tube would be the right size, they can look too big while you are fitting them though. Inflate the tube slightly and take your time.

Are your really going to put Marathon plus on your Allez?
It [/u]heavyduty touring / commuting tyre, your bike will be a hell of a lot less fun.0 -
Yes the tyre had a gap between the new tyre and the rim.
I reckon I must have ordered a 28 by mistake (didnt know they did "bigger" wheels)
I took a spare tyre inside my rucksack, as well as 2 inner tubes.
I seem to get a puncture every other time I am out on the bike.
No pinch flats, actual bits n bobs getting into the tyres, like stones or thorns.
I make sure I get pumped up to 100ps to mitigate as much as possible.
So thanks for the advice all. And yes I know its a chunky tyre, but the whole puncture thing is really getting to meI have the GP4000s at the moment, thats the tyre that got the flat on saturday. A small stone got right inside the top of the tyre and nipped into the inner tube only very slightly. I ditched the pump with the CO2 cannisters and got a manual pump which feels more reliable I couldnt really get the hang of the CO2 one and the pump fell to bits.
This new pump got me to 90ps pretty easily although wouldnt go higher without Geoff Capes effort0
