Powder coating Frame

I've been toying with the idea of having my Rockhopper (05) frame powder coated. I've been directed to a specialist near me who has a vast choice of colour options and does his own media blasting. My concerns are firstly, am I just polishing a t*rd? I love the bike but a new frame is tempting. Secondly, could the blasting and coating cause any unforeseen (by me a least) problems such as damage to threads for instance. Finally, where might I be able to get some new genuine transfers/stickers, should I just get some random ones that look good or just stick with the plain finish. Any thoughts or help here would be appreciated.

HI, a mate of mine recently had a 1990 orange Something or other powder coated, he had no problems with theads and it looked really nice, He had it done by a reputable company in Bristol yet after having a jaunt out up in kielder (nothing to taxing) his frame was chipped in many places!! I would say save the money and look for a new frame.

Many moons ago circa 92 i took my scratched/chipped Dale frame down to the bare metal and spent hours polishing it up. i think i was happier with my end result than my mate is with his.

So is it a case of the powder coat being a bit brittle? I know motorbike bits stand up to a fair bit of abuse and I see that Santa Cruz do powder coated frames so surely they can't be rubbish.

    My bad.

Just rang mate up and he told me he didnt get it powder coated, in the end it was a respray. i didnt know that he had changed his mind. he also said that if he had had it coated it wouldn't have chipped like it did.

    Sorry for misleading you
