I bought a hardtail about 2 months ago,and have mostly been riding quite tame trails and on roads, having clocked up 1500km my handle bars are creaking is there any way to stop this or is it just wear and tear? I remember this on many of my bikes i just want to know why it happens and what it is?

My all mountain did the same after quite a bit of use
Place a very thin film of copperslip compound where the bars make contact with the stem
Make sure your stem bolts are correctly torqued, the avergae tends to be 5NM

Are you sure it`s your bars and not your headset?

I had similar and it turned out the headset was slightly loose.

Had creaking noise once found out to be One of the quick release on bottom
    of 36 r fork.
But if Carbon barsm you could pull down on the bars and see if they snap
    or just replace them.
