edited August 2009 in MTB buying advice
Hello. Yet another newbie is here with the same old questions and requests. I'm looking for a mountain bike to buy in a couple of weeks when i get my wage :) I'm currently capped at £350 and probably will buy a new one so i can take the all mighty 0% interest credit. But i have trouble choosing what i will enjoy...

Mongoose 2009 Tyax Elite - http://www.sunsetmtb.co.uk/shop/index.p ... gory_id=78

Specialized Hardrock Disc Bike 2010 - http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/produc ... 0&id=11555

Giant Yukon Disc - http://www.nationalcycles.co.uk/product ... s_id=38455

Specialized Bicycles Myka Sport Disc - http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... c-09-33851

Specialized Hardrock Sport 2009 - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... e-ec016011

Any ideas? Are these any good? Any alternatives?

You might be able to get a 2008 still for that money which might have a better fork on it (Rockshox rather than RST) so it's worth hunting around.

    These, for instance: http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/16763/Bianchi_Doss_6400_Bike_2008

after owning one for nearly a year i would go for the 2009 hardrock sport over the 2010 disc version simply because i'm not a fan of mechanical discs. it's either hydraulic's or good old Vs for me :D

Probably not, because the two shops that are in my town are utter garbage, selling all sorts of nonsense and they don't stock Mongoose at this moment anyway. I'm going for a 20-21 frame. I'm 6ft 12inch tall by the way.

Is that 7 foot then? ;-)

Tyax for me for rougher riding. Yukon for not so rough.

Well can't say it is 7 if it is only 6.14 :D I was going towards Tyax as well...last question though, is it worth it getting my pennies together and getting the Super instead of Elite? I get the hydro brakes, different fork and cranckset, rear derailleur and shifters are SRAM X5. Is it worth the extra 65-70 quid?

Hey, which bike shops have you been to? Have you tried Cycle Revolution on Peartree Road? They've got a good selection of bikes including, Specialized and Giant. Pretty sure I saw some test bikes when I was in there last week too. They're pretty helpful and at least you can sit on the bike and see what feels best even if you don't buy from there.
    Eyes on the prize.

The super - absolutely. The Elite is great: the Super is just that.

Two of my favourite ever budget bikes, year after year.

Regretably my application was declined (an attempt to sign a contract with t-mobile has failed as well). Seems because i am from EU yet i am not a UK citizen, it will take time untill i can even bother to try and use the interest free scheeme. Surelyi will need to spend around 3 years in UK first...This sucks but nothing can be done about it. Next stop - Cycle 2 Work scheeme!
