Have had surfboards damaged FOUR times despite very careful packing. One was snapped so badly the shaper reckoned it must have been thrown with loads of force directly onto the ground.

We have always got compensation though - in fact one board that I have repaired myself twice has generated a free board and £140 in cash...

I was once in the very last row of a BA flight into Heathrow so was in no hurry to get off th eplane - and watched the baggage handlers throwing suitcases out of the hold in many cases missing the little truck thing and seeing them hit the concrete. Unsurprisingly I found stuff in my case damaged and got some compensation in reply to my letter and the 'isolated incident' line in their reply.

Have to say this was many years ago and have had no issues since.

Annoyingly BA were always great but stopped taking surfboards!

    Do they take bikes?
