Looking to build a bike from scratch for dj/street/park, i want 24s, singlespeed and sus forks just want an idea on price for a half decent build. Was looking at an identiti p60 framr or dmr transition, something along those lines! Also any good frame/build suggestions?
Cheers

I'm in the middle of building a rigid SS "playbike", so similar spec, but based around an old Trailstar frame that I got for £50 and a few second hand bits. My total is working out at about £550 all in.
Reckon with new suspension forks such as DJ3s and new frame you're looking at £800-900 at least, unless you get some bits second hand.0 -

enough for a decent build. Singlespeed means no cassette, no shifters, no derailleurs,
no need for chain tensioner.
Actualy I think it's possible to make a very good build for that money.0 -
i am thinking of building a dmr exalt in the near future. i am thinking of maybe running twin rings up front for a more freeride inspired bike. any suggestions on what cranks i should use. also cant decide whether to go for some 170mm marzocchi 888 that were made in 2005, but unsure. any suggestions please0

Im building a Giant STP bike at the mo with DJ2 forks, SS cranks, 24" wheels. Bought most bits from the forum and e bay so mostly (decent) second hand.
Comes to £350 all together including labour for facing the BB shell and fitting new headset. My Website - Trail Centre info for the UK: MTB Trail Time0 -
I did a quick calculation and got to about £1000! That was with DJ2s and some fairly average parts like to see how you got to £800-£900 with argyles!__________________________________________________________________________________________

I have a 2006 Mongoose ritual (before they went all svelt and lightweight and mainstream) - loooong TT and heavy - but I like that about it - 4130 Sanko steel
Originally cost nearly £600 back then.
Everything has gone apart from the frame and wheels (Formula sealed hubs with Sun Ringle Ditch-Witch rims - heavy but OK by me), frame has been stripped, resprayed and re-decalled (old skool style)
I have built it up again with the following
DMR Trailblade 2 rigid forks - £90
DMR Wingbar - £23
Azonic Shorty stem - £40
FSA Pig headset - £18
Shimano DX brake lever (right only) £23
Big Cheese BMX grips - £13
Salt BMX seatpost - £15
Blank BMX Saddle - £10
Gusset EXP cranks - £50
Stolen 25t ring - £25
Bug Cheese BMX pedals - £50
Maxis Holy roller tyres - £35
Tektro mechanical disk brake (rear only£35)
Fibrax brake outer and inner - £10
KMC gold SS BMX chain - £15
You can get an idea of how it all adds up...
BUT, my bike is how I want it - I could of bought one cheaper, but I like it - don't forget, rigids save a lot of dough!
I just wanted a 'big BMX' really and that's what I have without looking like a clown

You can still save a bit with different stem and handlebars, also on the brakes, but I think
going bb7 and bb5 will be a good choice. Plus the DJ1 will be better than the DJ2 at the
same price. And sorry you can't build a bike with Argyle, well I think you can if you go for
the 302, but the 318 is £100 more.0 -
Thanks for that the only issue is i need to buy it on finance so needa to come from the same place. With winstanleys when you buy using finance you either get 10% added on to the discount price or the rrp which ever is cheaper!
I thought the P60 came with a BB also ?
Looks like a fairly sweet build but didnt realise it would be so much.
Also any thoughts on the Curtis MX24 frame?__________________________________________________________________________________________
Dmr Trailstar0 -
Buying only from winstanleys changes things a bit, but hey, 10% discount is always welcome.
So I would change this:
The DJ2 with an Argyle 302 for £250, you get a 20mm axle and 500g/ 1.1lbs lighter fork.
No clue on the cranks, because the hussefelt is out of stock. :?
Gusset 1-ER Single-Speed Convertor Kit is available at winstanleys also.
The BB7 and BB5 are a bit more but it's your decision if go for these.
And for the front wheel, probably you have to buy a Halo Combat rim, 20mm hub and
spokes, because only the Halo Tornado is in stock at winstanleys but in gold only.
Btw, didn't noticed that the P-66 comes with BB, sorry,
and the Curtis MX24 looks good, can't be bad, can be?0 -
The argyles would be £275 because its 10% more if its discounted but worth a thought also whats wrong with Gusset Pigmy cranks?
Also does the wheelcome prebuilt from winstanleys or does that have to be done?
Any ideas on cost of getting it built too?__________________________________________________________________________________________
Dmr Trailstar0 -
Nothing wrong with the Gusset Pigmy cranks, it's just the price, £126 all together,
where with the hussefelt you'll get all that for £60.
You mean the front wheel? I don't know if winstanleys build wheels, but if not you can
buy only hub and rim, and let it build at your lbs, which I don't know how much will it cost.
Btw, I read that wrong, I thought you get a 10% discount.
Things are a bit more expensive now, so Argyles will add to the cost.
The DJ2 is probably your best bet.0 -
Im thinking now if im spending this much might aswell consider buying the frame i really want the NS Suburban.
Im not missing any parts am I?
Will those truvative cranks fit with the bb supplied?__________________________________________________________________________________________
Dmr Trailstar0 -
I don't think you're missing parts.
And I think the truvative cranks will fit the Gusset BB and Euro BB on the P60.
But when you're finaly buying, I think to make sure you should ask in workshop and tech
for confirmation, and whatever you're buying BB and cranks you should ask about what
size will you need.0 -
i built up my play bike for about 400-500 pounds, can't quite remember, but most of it was second hand.
I'd say build some handbuilts for wheels though. Lighter and just as strong.0 -

Silly idea, don't bother with dual crown forks on a hardtail, there's simply no point and unless your doing massive freeride stuff 140 - 160mm travel will be best for the exalt frame.
Have a look at my long travel HT bike in my sig, cost me about £1000 to build, forks were second hand (obviously as they're 2004 models - Z150).0 -
Ok sounds good thanks for the advise think ill go for the suburban 24 though!__________________________________________________________________________________________
