Can't see the mountains being a problem for Lance quite yet. With the small cushion he has on Bertie - good chance he can finish in Yellow tomoro - assuming he can get some distance on Canci. That isn't guaranteed either.

May be Lance's last shot at Yellow this Tour so am sure he'll be going for it.

  • If Lance hangs with Contador tomorrow, he's in yellow.
Don't expect Contador to expend extra energy to put time into Lance tomorrow if Lance can climb with him.

Contador -- it is important to end this silliness tomorrow.

Given that Lance doesn't have the jersey -- Contador's away.

the problem for Bertie is that if he attacks Armstrong and fails then the Astana team will go to Armstrong's camp. Armstrong doesn't have to make the running he is sitting pretty but Contador has more to lose tomorrow then gain.

I don't know. If Bertie wins and gains some time on everyone, it will be a stinker of a Tour.

The ideal solution for for Lance and Bertie to stare at each other and some other people to climb into contention.

I'd not be too surprised if Cancellera was still there in the end.

I agree and it's really a Spanish stage.

The alternative for Contador is far worse. Besides, if he fails to drop Lance, then that's it, surely?
Armstrong will demand team leadership, if he gets the jersey.
I'd say Lance has more to lose.

    I'd agree with Blazing S
Contador will probably attack and Astana can't chase their own man.
But if Lance gets yellow can Bertie attack the yellow jersey in days to come??
I'm thinking more Roche/Visentini than Lemond/Hinault with these two :?

Contador will drop Lance for half a minute and finish with Sastre, Evans, Schleck and perhaps Kreuziger in the current elite. Lance will come in shepherded by Zubeldia and Klodi. I could even see Cancellara sticking with that group. Leipheimer will finish somewhere between the two groups.

Agree with zippypablo on the 87 Giro analogy. Does this make Paulinho the new Eddy Schepers?

If there is any justice (and I don't expect any) it will be Contador with Armstrong #2. But can you really see the others catching these 2? It's in both their interests to keep Astana on top even if it meant giving Levi/Kloden the jersey for a day. In a perfect world i'd like Contador to win overall and Armstrong to take the Ventoux stage and announce he's had a good time but that's it (until the next comeback tour)(

Astana have got a chance to distance some people here and putr them out of contention completely. I'm thinking Evans for one, it's really a power ("diesel") climb, but if Astana, and Contador can vary the pace enough they can put him into difficulty, similar to what he was like on the Ventoux in the Dauphine.

As for yellow, I think it will be Lance, but like iain says I wouldn't be too shocked to see Fabian hold on. The thing counting against him though is he will probably have to work for the Schlecks. He had his fifteen minutes during the TdS where they helped him out, so I think they'll call that in.

I reckon Andy schleck is going to be looking at making up for a whole load of lost time.

I'm expecting big attacks by sexybank and astana, possibly similar format as last year- both teams hammering along at the front to wear everyone out, so you'll just be left with the 2 strong teams of Astana and sexybank going toe to toe up the climb.

Then attacks by the schlecks up the climb? try to get some time on main rivals?

Bertie will stay with Armstrong until Ventoux. There's too much to lose for either to attack before then, and as long as they stay close to each other in time, they will both benefit from their strong team.

Also Bertie won't attack today because it's not steep enough.

There will be Sastre and Schleck off the front, but Astana will limit losses, and Armstrong will be in yellow tonight.

    :?
  • Bertie will give Armstrong a big old slice of reality pie, served with a side of whupass.

You mean you think Lance will win today - but Bertie will win the overall Tour? Or take the overall lead today? Because that would be impossible (to take the overall lead today if Lance wins the stage).
