I guess you mean in a day right?

If so then a road bike. Any road bike as long as the set-up isn't too 'racey'.

I've done 600km rides on a Giant SCR2.0 and an Aravis Audax bike (which I also used for PBP).

I now ride a Kuota Kharma. I've done 4x300km rides over the last month and now that its set-up just right I would happily use it for longer rides.

Next person along will probably tell you that you need a custom built steel audax bike
    More problems but still living....

Something lightweight and probably steel would be most comfortable. Thorn Audax for example.

As said any road bike will do it, although a racier set up will be less comfortable. I've also got a Kharma and happy to do long rides on it, but if it's likely to be wet I've also got an Enigma Etape with full guards - slightly more comfortable, more relaxed position and a dry arse.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

All depends on your budget, a good quality steel or titanium. As has been said before don't go for a race postion setup ie; high saddle and low bars.
Might be worth going for a custom buid rather than off the shelf

Audax bike is your way, steel is the classic way and my Hewitt Cheviot is lovely (though fitted for full touring). My Tifosi CK7 is fine carbon fork and seat post chill any alloy harshness. Thorn Audax something from Mercian or Longstaff
