Ive got a truvativ firex 3.1 GXP crank and bottom bracket on an orange p7, ive recently started to feel a click with each rotation of the crank
I dont feel it if im pedalling hard in a big gear or when im off the bike pedalling with my hand, just if im pootling along. Happens on all 3 rings.
cant feel any play anywhere and no funny noises spinning the crank, nothing feels loose.

what do I check, in what order?

Thanks.

This might sound daft, but it's not the front derailluer cable-end catching on the crank-arm is it??

Seeing as you got a P7, it screams to me that you been giving it some sh1t (rightly so! ). Take the chainset off, and turn the bearings in the bottom-bracket, each side independantly. If one feel notchy, or stiff, new bearings! Or, if you have a 'grease-able' bearing set (like the Chris King one, or Hope (I think!)), then grease up the bearings, and re-install, not forgetting TO GREASE THE SPLINES ON THE CRANK!!!

If it's none of the above.... I give up! Lol.

EDIT - make sure, 100% that's it's the BB. It could be suspension bearings, shock mounts / bushings, rear QR loose, cassette loose, rear wheel bearings loose

Etc etc. The list is long full of possibles, so exhuast all other possiblities

read the info in the noisy transmission topic in the FAQs. could be many things from pedals to handle bars.

I've been getting exactly the same noise for about the last week, also with a Travativ FireX GXP crank and BB. I'm pretty certain it's the BB because it only happens when I pedal, compressing the suspension, turning the pedals without turning the cranks etc doews nothing. So far it's only when under load but I expect it will get worse with time. No play in the BB as yet but I'll probably replace it just to be on the safe side.

Sorry, I realise that doesn't really help but it might be something of an issue with those cranks/BB...

makes no difference what cranks you have. they all make the same noises when worn.

but there are so many other things that also make noises that need checking as well.

Good point. I shouldn't generalise I guess. I'm pretty sure it's the BB in my case though, given that the noise only happens when pedaling. That, and I can get an XT crankset for €119 so the itch to upgrade is getting me

I had a clicking sound for ages with exactly the same symptoms as you, i removed cranks and bb and greased everything. Then recently i swopped some pedals over from my other bike and the clicking disappeared??

What i couldnt understand was i had the same clicking on the other bike, with same pedals i'm using now, but i got rid of that clicking by greasing the splines of the bb?? Go figure...................

cobblers- i was hoping someone was going to tell me about the big 'creak on/off' switch I hadn't noticed
thanks for the suggestions all, looks like i'll change the pedals and if that's not it i'll start at the BB and work outwards
