i have dt swiss 4.2 rims on my stumpjumper. I want to fit either nimbus or gator skin slicks. I have been told that the maximum psi i should go for is 80 i was going to run 100 psi will this damage the rim?

The pressure is more of a concern for your tyres, and you rim tape.

It's the tyre's bead that has to grip onto the rolled-edge of the rim. Loose fitting, easy to fit tyres a generally more likely to have a lower PSI rating, than tough, tight b@stards do. If your rim tape is cack aswell, sometimes the pressure can force the tape to be peirced by the spokes (if shallow rims), or slide.

But the rims should be fine, as long as they aren't WELL old, and abused. The rims are more of a concern if they have been used with rim brakes (rim's braking surface gets worn away, so weakens).
