Been offered a Carrera Vanquish for £150 in large frame (54cm). I'm 5'9, 11stone, 31 inch leg. Will this be the right size for me? Was unsure if frame is compact or not. Quick response appreciated. Thanks

  • Hi,

I'm basically exactly the same size as you and have a boardman comp medium(very similar bike I think) which is the perfect size for me, I would not buy it unless you can try it first .

Are the boardman and carrera frames same type I wonder?

I dont think so as the carrera's have round tubing and the boardmans is like a diamond.

Unsure what to do as he needs quick decision and bike only 12 mtgs old mint condition. Frantically searching on site for clues to size!

  • I tried both bikes in Halfords before I bought the Boardman, both medium, both felt very similar in sizing, i just went for the extra quality of the Boardman. Yet again, you don't want to spend £150 on a bike that may not fit you, the price is pretty good though, the 2008 model of the Vanquish I tried was on sale for £499.

If it wasn't such a good price it would be easy decision. Will try to get to halfords tomorrow to confirm and keep fingers crossed he will wait.

Go to the Evans Cycles website, somewhere on there they have a bike sizing wizard, very basic, but you put your height in and type of bike (MTB/Road) and it gives you a rough idea of the right size. Not perfect, but it will give you a rough approximation.
  • I think you are making the right decision.
