Rim/Tyre Question

I've noticed that you can get various widths of tyre, but does the same go for rims/wheels? Or is it a set size of wheel/rim and the different widths of tyres all fit on?

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but it was bugging me :D

No, you can get different sized rims, generally the wider the rim the stronger the rim, the heavier the rim.

XC rims eg Mavic 717`s are generally suitable for tyres up to 2.1, The next size up is the 719`s which are stronger, wider and will fit bigger tyres.

For general purposes however you can fit the common mtb tyre sizes on most typical mtb rims. There are always exceptions of course.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
