Hi,

I am hoping to use my road bike to do some commuting to work. I have a Trek 1.5 C 2009 (98 cm wheelbase)

Does anyone have any advice on which type of pannier rack i should purchase. As I am hoping not to clip my heels on the rack or bags.

Many Thanks

I'd go for something like the Tortec Ultralite - very flexible (not literally) as far as fitting goes, and I managed to get the panniers out of my way on a very short wheelbase track bike using one.

Also, clearly, you'd be better off getting 2 smaller bags than one larger one.

    The Tubus Logo

    and the Tortec Expedition

have a lower rail that puts the panniers slightly further back.

Tubus also do a QR axle rack fitting that puts the rack further rearward (as well as resolving the issue of no lower rack mounts).

Tubus are expensive but superb, Tortec are cheap but very good.

However, my g/f has a Tortec Ultralight on her Trek 1.2 and does not clip her panniers with her heels, however she has size 6 feet, and uses Ortlieb Back Roller Classic panniers, which have a fairly slim profile.

It is difficult to anticipate what will work though, frame geometry, foot size, rack design and mounting method, and pannier design will all have an influence.

The Tortec Velocity reviewed recently on these pages might be another possibility

And if none of the excellent suggestions above appeal, there are always rack top bags, etc.
