How hard is it to attach tubular tyres? Is it a self do-able job or is it safer to take it to a shop? Thanks.

Not hard, it just takes a little time and patience. If you rush it, you'll either have to end up redoing the whole thing, or risk them coming off! If you search on the weightweenies forum there's a thread on there about gluing tubs.

Steer clear of tubs if you are not prepared to mount them yourself, as that is what you will have to do if you puncture on a ride.

Back in the day when all I ran was tubulars I kept them (with only residual rim adhesive) on old rims to `pre-strech' them.... at least during the season I intended to use them. I would then put them on the intended rim and add glue after the tyre was on (a few inches of rim at a time..just lifting off a bit of tyre after the other) ...letting it set a few days uninflated. They were then good to go for the rest of the season and tacky enough to change at the side of the road. Never had any tyre roll-off incidents.

I have never figured a way of applying glue to the entire tubular rim and -then- trying to get the new tyre on without creating a huge tacky mess.

I actually consider side-of the road clincher replacement far more fiddly and am thinking of going back to tubs next year.
