grinding noise from BB or cranks

Every time I take my bike out there is a grinding noise that seems to come from the cranks or BB any time I pedal. Are the bearings in the BB worn or is it something else?

If you're not mechanically minded yourself i'd strongly advice you get yourself into your local bike store and get it checked out!!
A few years ago i had a bit of a grinding noise which i ignored for a 10 mile ride - resulting in complete killing of bearing and cups on a 3 piece crankset!!
I'd guess grinding is normally due to bearing wear and/or lack of lubrication in the bears. Might simply be times for new bearing etc.0 -
Thanks Dynamik. That is probably good advice as i have been riding it with a grind for at least 2 months0

If you have cheap pedals then it'll be the bearings in them in which case a new set will do the trick! Same thing happened to me! Just grab each pedal and give it a rattle to see if there is play in the spindle.
Likewise with the crank, hold each crank arm and try to move the cranks side-to-side, if there is play then the bearings are most likely shot.Specialized Rockhopper '07

Cheers Steelo. I have to get it sorted soon cos I am going to the Alps next week for a holiday and I'm bringing the bike with me0
