I bought a 2010 Allez Elite three weeks ago - seems a bit early but errrmmm... it was nice and shiny.
  • My lbs told me Giant for 2010 will be in the shops at the start of August. Hope so as seemingly can't get hold of 2009 models for same reason as you say, all sold out. Found nothing on their website to confirm though...

I always assumed most brands started to release their newest ranges around the start/end of the TDF as the teams always seem to be using the new as yet unavailable models.
Orbea released the 2009 version of the Orca around Feb/March last year,.. ?? Oddd. Am amazed it's July and no 2010 model yet.

    -Dura-Ace

Spesh 2010 Allez & Secteur available in store now, whilst 2010 Tarmac & Roubaix details have yet to be released so it's likely to be August before either of these 2 are available.

I would hope Giant will get a move on as Spesh released theirs last month and Trek this month.
They are going to be missing out on some sales if they delay much longer.

Last year though when I ordered a Giant on 5th July they said it was a 6 week wait, and that was on stock they had !!

They seem to be late this year which is strange as they have increased production this year to over 1 million bikes.

I do like the Trek 1.2 but it does seem to be a tad overpriced - How much did you get it for ?

  • Yeah - I wanted to have a quick go with a Trek 1.7 at my local bike shop, but they said that I'd have to wait a week or so until the 2010 versions came in.

The only bummer being that the 2.3 (which I think is the 2010 equivalent of the 2009 1.7) is in white and platinum, which doesn't look quite as yummy as the older red and white version.

    Shallow? Me?

Oh - and All-Terrian Cycles have the new Trek models on their website.

Prices seem to have shot up (and/or specs dropped) again this year - 2010 Trek 2.3 with 105 costs more than 2009 1.9 with Ultegra. Similar changes with the Spesh Allez models.

BTW, why are manufacturer websites updated with 2010 models so long after they're available in the shops?
  • i pick up my new 2010 Tarmac Comp on wednesday but guy in LBS had to do some serious 'phone a friend' string pulling to get it, apparently they don't get a full batch in until end of september...
its a genuinely stunning bike, but correct that the prices have shot up...

I noticed that the Specialized Sirrus Sport has gone up from £399 to £499 for 2010 model. A 25% rise seems a heck of a lot. I thought the spec might be a bit better, but I see a previous post says spec is poorer on some 2010 bikes which is even more annoying.
  • There is a problem with supply of Giant racing bikes in that Giant at present have no free stock at all .Most shops (mine included)have preordered bikes and when the bikes come into the country they are allocated according to those preorders. Therefore if your local bikeshop has no outstanding orders they won't have a bike for a long time.

When mine come in to stock I tend to inform people on my website www.chrisbikes.co.uk

However due to the present shortage of bikes it is hard to offer any substantial discounts!

Let me know if you need any assistance.

If I were looking to purchase a new bike (and I might be tempted as Christmas is coming...) I'd defnitely be looking at trying to lay my hands on '09 models.

The exhange rate has really taken it's toll and, as has already been pointed out, every '10 model I've seen so far is more expensive and built to a lower spec than '09 models.

Though admittedly the '10 models are mostly a bit more blingy..
