I'm looking for a challenge this weekend in Northumbria (that isn't necessarily Kielder). A really good xc route with some canny climbs, technical singletrack with some good downhills to boot. Any good recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks.

This loop is all on bridelways (50km) around the Coquet valley. Start Alwinton up Clennel street past middle hill to the border ridge, drop down into the badlands(ecosse) then climb back out via The Street(old drovers Route) fast descent on grassy track, climb back up to middle hill, descend the Uswayburn, techy singletrack to Shilmore farm, more bridleway over a pass to Alwinton, challenging enough i would have thought. Thanks for the route, I tried it out yesterday. It was definitely a challenge in places, with a lot of grassy climbs, but the weather was fantastic in the NE and as I ventured further into the Cheviots the views were stunning. Fanatstic day out - thanks again.
