Cracked my frame!

I was cleaning my bike last week and noticed a crack in my frame, it goes 3/4 the way around the top tube near but not on the weld that joins the top tube to the head tube, gutted!

It 'was' an 07 GT I-Drive a 1.0, I only had the frame for about 6 months and it really helped my riding, it was my first full susser.

I bought the frame second hand and built it up with parts from my 08 Genesis Core 40 hardtail apart from the forks which are Fox Float, so as soon as I saw the crack I stripped the GT and built the Genesis back up to its former glory.

So, the good news, I really am enjoying riding my hardtail again! I have taken it for a few blasts around Coed Y Brenin and ye it makes me work harder on the descents, yes I hurt a bit more after the ride, but I feel a lot more involved in the riding and I'm loving it!

Ps: i'm not trying to start 'the' debate.

    Forgot to ask,

I bought the frame second hand so have no receipt or anything, should the frame still be under warranty?

Has anyone had any experience in warranty claims that can help or am I screwed without a receipt?

Sorry dude, warranties are not usually transferable to new owners. I'd still suggest getting in touch anyway as some brands are pretty generous about these things - whether you choose to mention the frame is 2nd hand or claim it was new and lost the receipt is a moral dilemma for you to decide...

    Ye that's what I thought.

If I got over the moral issue and said it was bought new, they may asked me where I bought it from and when and other details like that, which I don't know.

I might just ask them and see what they say, it is pretty dissapointing that a frame can just crack like that.
  • Just say the it was bought as a gift by a now deceased relative - I have no moral compass I once went on a drink bender for 5 days and told work my dad had died so I wouldnt get sacked !!

spesh transferred the warrant from a previous owner on my enduro (bloody good job too!!) they gave me a 2 yr warranty, very coolio, it may be worth being honest and see if gt will do something similar?

That was very good of them!

Yes, I would say honesty is the best policy in this case. Fingers are crossed for you turnercraig

    Well, SEMI-honesty...

Phone up, and ask them if their frame warranty 'theoretically' could be changed over to a new owner, in the event of a failure.

If they say no, then phone up a day or two later, and pretend you are the original purchaser..? Lol

Thanks for the help and advice guys, gonna give it a shot and see what happens, will let you know what they say.
  • turnercraig you could ask if they will replace the tubing as it would not cost that much , if they dont do anything else ok , i have broken many frames in the past when i was a rodie . trust me , does give it an excuse for a new paint job to lol
