I just managed to catch the closing 20km's of "the tour" last night.
Almost bouncing up and down on the couch as the finish approached..Mark Cavendish crosses the line in front YAY!! then he strikes THAT pose for his sponsors..OMG!!
Everytime I see the replay on Sky News I cringe in embarressment.
I know you have to keep the sponsors happy but.....

He's a professional paid to advertise his sponsors wares.......he's just doing his job. And doing it very well! 8) I'd never heard of HTC until Sunday - now at least I know they have something to do with phones .0

Not quite, the advertiser/ team sponsor pays the team, the team pay the rider.
He is paid to ride his bike, win sprints etc. I imagine there may have been a small "bonus" above and beyond his normal win bonus yesterday via the sponsor.
He's young and talented, there will always be people looking to manipulate him and if enough money is involved he is probably more than happy to be manipulated at this stage in his career0 -
He's not an idiot. He knows who's paying the bills and his salary so he'll do the right things to keep them happy. It's no more stupid than a rider doing up his jersey on the run in to the finish so the sponsor's logos can be seen.0

It's not just you. I know it pays his bills, but I do agree it looked naff as a very naff thing.0

as far as i'm concerned, when he pulls of a stage win like that then he can strike any pose he wants.
Who cares whether people think he is arrogant, or if his victory pose is naff, he is a heck of a sprinter and is raising the profile of our sport in a positive way.

You're splitting hairs, I think. These are all trade teams - without sponsors, nobody would be paying him to ride his bike. Everytime a rider sits up, zips up his jersey and straightens it out before crossing the line, they are doing it for a reason - same as Cav...0 -
Be glad he wasn't doing promos for Dave Z this time
