I don't know about 'demo days' for Commencal, but I'm almost certain that Llandegla have a fleet of Commencal bikes you can try out. If you're within driving distance, it could be worth it.
There are certain brands of bike that rarely are reduced in price unless they`re old stock or odd size /difficult to shift models. Orange is one. Marin another. Whereas you`ll always get a deal on a Kona or a Giant.
The commencal has a more "plush" feel to the suspension than most Oranges, due to it's linkage driven shock.
However, when I rode a meta (5.5, IIRC), I couldn't help feeling like the back end was flexing noticeably. I only had a quick blast though, so I can't confirm if it was the swingarm, or the rear wheel.
Orange back ends are well known for being stiff, but I've never ridden a 5 so I can't comment on that particular bike.
I can vouch for the 5 pro weighing 28lbs (18") weighed one at work on the calibrated digi scales
I have ridden both a Commencal Meta 553 (30lbs, 18") & 2 Orange 5's ('06 custom built & '07 Pro)
The meta is a great bike, but not as stiff out back as the 5 & it doesn't feel quite as bombproof as a 5, although it is pretty tough & a very enjoyable ride, a great all rounder
I still prefer the 5 though as it's just a bit nicer to ride & always feels like it would take more than you can give it
If money isn't an issue then the 5 could be the bike for you, if money is an issue then the Meta is very good value

That's the closest.

All pretty much personal preference.
Recent MBR review (which you can find on the Orange website) quotes 28 lbs (12.9 kg). That's for the 18" frame model.

Test them both & see what you think.
